‘America’s Got Talent’ Recap: Who Did Enough To Earn A Spot In The Finals?
With just weeks to go until the finale of America’s Got Talent, 11 acts hit the stage on Tuesday night for the chance to earn a spot in the finals.
In case you missed it, here’s a recap of the 11 acts and their performances.
Double Dragon
Kicking off the show was sister duo Double Dragon. After being saved by the judges in the earlier rounds, the ladies returned with a mashup of Lizzo’s “Juice” and Beyonce and J. Balvin’s “Mi Gente”. This was easily their best performance of the entire season and they were in their element.
The question for me is whether or not it might be too late. This is the semifinals and they may have ran out of time to catapult them into the finals.
Dance Town Family
Next up was Dance Town Family, who were eliminated in the quarterfinals. However, the judges brought them back as a wildcard and this dance group showed why they were worthy of the judges’ save.
Their choreography and sharpness through the two minutes was on point and its tough to find a mistake in their performance. I don’t know if they will win but don’t be surprised if you see them again on World of Dance or as future Dancing with the Stars pros.
Broken Roots
The former police detectives turned country music duo were up next. They performed outside of the Bates Hotel singing Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country” and stepped up their performance from a week ago.
It was easily their best performance since their audition and it came at the right time. I personally hope they advance to the finals because I’d love to hear them one more time.
Spyros Bros
I have loved the Spyros Bros since their audition and was pretty excited to see them perform. As a Harry Potter nerd, I was hyped to see them do their thing but their act had a few mistakes, despite it looking cool with the pyrotechnics.
This is the semifinals and I feel the brothers made a big mistake that could cost them $1 million prize. They tried to do too much too quick and it may have cost them a spot in the finals.
Thomas Day
If you’re thinking you haven’t seen this kid in a while, you’re not mistaken. He actually dropped out of the competition because his mom got COVID. Season 16 is right around the corner and in my opinion, the judges wasted a wildcard spot on this guy.
Anyway, he performed Billie Eilish’s “When The Party’s Over” and he didn’t sound bad. But since the singing category is SO strong this year, I just don’t see him moving on.
Alan Silva
The aerialist was up next and while I like this guy, I personally don’t understand the hype around this act. He replaced his silks with chains as his support apparatus and took away the fire.
I don’t know if he will go through but this does not scream Vegas act to me. He’s performed three times now and its basically been the same exact thing every single time.
Shaquira McGrath
The Atlanta Braves worker turned country singer returned after a few missteps in her quarterfinals performance. She sang one of my favorite ever songs, Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”. She blew the roof off the place and really showed why she is a dark horse in the competition.
Shaquira delivered her best vocal performance since the auditions and it may have given her a real shot at making the finals.
Brandon Leake
Never in my life after watching AGT for 15 seasons did I think that a spoken word artist would have a chance to make the finals. However, I’ve become a big fan of Brandon Leake since his quarterfinal performance last week and it left me wondering how he was going to top it.
Tuesday night, he spoke about his relationship with his absent father, Tyrone. It was truly so emotional and you could tell it was coming from his heart. He may not be a Vegas act but I would love to see someone with his talent in the finals.
Malik Dope
Okay, this drummer has been one of my favorite acts of the entire season and tonight he left me going to YouTube to watch his performance about 20 more times. No, I’m not kidding.
Anyway, Malik brought the house down with his insane drumming and tricks as he delivered one of the best, if not THE best, performances of the season thus far. I really would be shocked if he did not advance to the finals.
Archie Williams
Okay, there’s something I need to say about Archie Williams. His story of wrongly being imprisoned for 37 years for a crime he did not commit is truly remarkable but I don’t think it should be the reason he makes the finals.
In my opinion, Archie is not a strong enough singer. He performed a cover of Ruben Studdard’s “Flying Without Wings”, which was dedicated to his daughter that he met after getting out of prison. The performance was pitchy and some notes fell flat; it was not for me.
Roberta Battaglia
The final act of the night was Sofia Vergara’s Golden Buzzer choice. Roberta sang P!nk’s “What About Us” and she made it her own. She slowed down the song and it was honestly the best decision for her. She delivered the song well and I think it may earn her a spot in the finals.
America’s Got Talent continues Wednesday at 8/7c on NBC.
