Exclusive Interview with Country Singer Lauren Davidson
Lauren Davidson is quickly making a name for herself in the country scene. She has opened up for some of country music’s biggest artists including Old Dominion, LOCASH, and Carly Pearce. Her early singles “Sometimes” and “Loaded Gun” immediately turned heads with their palpable attitude, vocal explosivity, and a level of lyrical nuance not normally seen in a newcomer.
I got the chance to talk to her about how she first got started in music, her musical influences, her most recent single “Find Me”, her obsession with Hamilton and so much more! Keep reading to see what she had to say!
Tell me a little bit about how you first got into making and performing music.
I’ve basically been into music my entire life. My father was a singer – songwriter and music was always around the house and I grew a strong love for music as a kid and always wanted to be on the stage.
Was there a specific moment or person that made you realize that music is what you wanted to pursue professionally?
The support of my family, specifically my father always made me think it was possible to follow that dream and led me to pursuing a career in music professionally.
I’m always genuinely curious about what artists want to convey with their music so if you had to describe the music you make without using genre names, how would you describe it?
Stories meets feelings.
Going off of that, who are some of your musical influences?
I have so many- Grace Potter, Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Carole King, Carrie Underwood, Alanis Morisette.
Your most recent single is “Find Me”. What’s it about?
Finding yourself after the loss of a relationship. We all make sacrifices for the ones we love and when that relationship ends its really empowering to get reacquainted with your true self – “Find Me” is about that strength.
Something I’ve always been curious with songwriting is how topics come to mind. Did you know what you wanted to write about going into the song session that birthed ”Find Me” or did the idea just come about organically once you were in the session?
This song specifically was a product of the session itself and was 100 percent organic to the moment. I had no idea what we were going to write that night but Im so glad this is what came out.
Was there any major changes made to ”Find Me” once you got into the recording studio, whether it be in the lyrics or something sonically?
Not even one. All the lyrics melodies and general ideas we had in mind when we were writing the song. But we did have a lot of fun in the studio building on that with vocal lines, guitar parts etc which wasn’t a major change but definitely took the song to the next level.
Prior to COVID-19, you were spending a lot of time on the road as an up-and-coming artist, playing shows and getting your name out there. What’s the best part about spending so much time on the road and the worst part? What are some of your favorite cities to visit and play a show in?
I love traveling, seeing new places, meeting new people and spending quality time with my band – we always have so much fun! The worst part is being away from friends and family and its hard to have a real routine or consistency in schedule. Some of my favorites are San Diego, Seattle & Vermont.
You are still relatively new to the music game. What are some music industry-related goals or benchmarks that you’re aiming to reach in the next couple of years?
My main goal is to tour full time on a tour bus. Id love to travel to more states and to the UK and id love to release a full length album.
I know these are weird, uncharted waters and there’s a lot of uncertainty and plans being re-arranged/canceled/etc. But what can fans expect from you in the next few weeks/months? Are you planning to release more music?
For sure!! I’m living the epitome of one day at a time but I’m in the middle of releasing my Love Aint Fair EP that is being released in 5 parts (“Find Me” is the third song) so I will definitely be continuing to release that project to you and along with it a few surprises! I also have a few virtual concerts and appearances lined up!
Last question — we’re called Talk Nerdy With Us because we all have an inner nerd so what is something that you’re currently nerding out about?
I love this question! I’ve been currently nerding out about Hamilton. I’ve watched it a few times on Disney + but Ive also been really into interviews from the cast and the history of our country.
