‘America’s Got Talent’ Recap: Acts Risk It All For A Spot In The Semifinals

America’s Got Talent continued on Tuesday night with 11 more acts putting it all on the line to advance into the next round as comedian and Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson filled in for the recovering Simon Cowell.

In case you missed it, here’s a recap of what went down in Tuesday’s live show.

Kelvin Dukes

The first act of the night belonged to the child singer, who impressed the judges during his first audition with not only his voice but his outgoing and confident personality. However, the same could not be said for his live show performance.

Kelvin performed outside at Universal to Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” and I honestly thought it was pretty boring. He is talented kid but I thought it was the wrong song choice and it may cost him in Wednesday’s results show.

The Shape

If you don’t remember this group, you are not alone. They were montaged through in the earlier rounds and for many, this was the first time anyone was truly seeing them. The high school dancers performed a Charlie Chaplin routine that was pretty boring. It was not impressive and their song choice of Pitbull’s “FireBall” also felt out of place. It was overall a forgettable performance.

Kameron Ross

The country singer was up next and his pre-taped video package revealed he repaired his relationship with his mother, who was diagnosed with cancer. He performed a country rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Million Reasons” but it was nothing spectacular. Kameron was pitchy throughout the performance and hearing this iconic Lady Gaga song turned country did not do it for me.

Bad Salsa

The winners of India’s Got Talent performed via satellite from India. I’ll admit there was not much salsa in their routine but there was plenty of tricks and flips that wow’d me. I have seen this act perform on Britain’s Got Talent and they have so much more to give if they move forward. After three mediocre acts to start the show, these two were the first to impress me. I’m interested to see if they advance in the results show.

Vincent Marcus 

The impressionist made me laugh so hard during the first audition with his impressions of Snoop Dog, Pitbull, and Eminem. Tuesday night saw him go for it by bringing out Lil Nas X, 50 Cent, and Eminem. While it was a solid routine, I don’t know how to feel about it. I did enjoy it but I had trouble identifying who he was impersonating. He’s a wildcard for me.

Alexis Brownley and the Puppy Pals

I love dogs as much as the next guy but this act was a giant mess. Much like we saw with the pigs last week, these dogs weren’t listening to Alexis and were off doing their own thing. As cute as the dogs are, I feel they are gone by Wednesday night.

Bonavega

I must be living on a different planet than everyone else. This wannabe rocker performed to The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” and “Guilty”. I honestly felt it was a waste of time and was just not good.

Spyros Bros

One of my favorite acts of the entire night belonged to these brothers from the Philippines. They performed a glow in the dark routine at Krustyland and really took their act to a completely new level. It is the first time I truly believe this could be an act in Vegas with a much bigger production around it.

Daneliya Tuleshova

I said from her first audition Danieliya would be in the finals and her performance on Tuesday night only made me more confident in my prediction. She sang Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” and in my opinion, she is ten times better than Roberta. She’s my pick to win it all.

Jonathan Goodwin

The daredevil was on Britain’s Got Talent last year and it was the first time I’ve seen someone come close to dying on live TV. His performance Tuesday was another step up; he did “Trial by Fire” as Jonathan was doused with fuel and locked into a harness. The stunt was trying terrifying and looked ready to be a Vegas act right now. I’d be very surprised if he did not advance.

Voices of Our City Choir

The final act of the night belonged to host Terry Crews’ Golden Buzzer choice, Voices of Our City Choir. The choir is made up of formerly homeless people who found a home in the choir. They sang performed “Stand By Me” and it truly gave me chills. I couldn’t think of a better way to close the show.
