Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols are leaving ‘Riverdale’ after four seasons
Riverdale is losing two key parents at the end of the current season. Both Skeet Ulrich, who plays Jughead’s father F. P. Jones, and Marisol Nichols, who plays Veronica’s mother Hermione Lodge, have confirmed that they are leaving The CW teen drama after four seasons. TVLine first reported the news on Sunday before both actors took to social media to confirm.
In a statement, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed that both actors are exiting the show following the conclusion of season four. However, he did leave the door open that they will return in the future.
“Part of life in Riverdale — and part of growing up — is saying goodbye to people. I’m grateful to Skeet and Marisol for their incredible work on the show these last four years, and we all wish them well on their future endeavors. F.P. and Hermione will never be far from our hearts. And, of course, they’re always welcome back in Riverdale.”
The pair have been on the show since its first season and there is no word yet as to how their characters will be written off the show. There is speculation that season five will see a time jump with the kids living on their own and entering adulthood.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve made on Riverdale, and I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis,” Ulrich said in a statement to several news outlets. “I’m proud to have been part of such a talented group of people, in front of the camera and behind. But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to explore other creative opportunities.”
In her statement on her departure, Nichols said: “I had an incredible time bringing Hermione Lodge to life and working with my amazing cast, who became family. “We had so many wonderful times together during the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We really do have the best fans ever. I am looking forward to the next chapter and am excited about the future.”
Both actors are leaving the show on their own accord to pursue other opportunities. Ulrich will next appear in the sci-fi feature BIOS alongside Tom Hanks and Nichols will appear in the horror film Spiral alongside Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson.
