‘The Flash’ 6×04: Team Flash struggles to cope with Barry’s future fate

In Tuesday’s episode of The Flash, Team Flash struggled to cope with the news that Barry will die in the upcoming Crisis.

In case you missed it, here’s a recap of what went down on Tuesday.

Cisco refuses to take ‘no’ for an answer

One member of Team Flash that refused to take ‘no’ for an answer was Cisco. He was left puzzled after Barry brought up potentially saving Dr. Ramsey Russo and getting a cure for his fatal HLH cancer diagnosis. We’re officially introduced to the new version of Wells, myth-buster Nash Wells, who offers to help the team find the cure in exchange for S.T.A.R. Labs building him a device. The team doesn’t necessarily trust him, but agrees.

The team recovers the cure, but Cisco does something out of character. He lies to Barry that the cure was stolen but he actually secretly kept it safe to use to save Barry later on. I wasn’t too happy with this angle for Cisco; it was so out of character and just not believable for his character.

At the end of the episode, Cisco lets it all out to Barry, telling him he just can’t sit by and watch his best friend die. Barry informs Cisco that he wants him to lead the team moving forward after he’s gone. He tells Cisco that he was showing him how to be a hero and tested him by saving Ramsey because to be a hero, you have to make tough decisions.

Ramsey is out for blood

It’s safe to say the S.T.A.R. Labs cure for Ramsey did not work. The fix from Mitch Romero’s black blood was temporary, which angered Ramsey. He realizes that he needs to kill to stay alive, so he does just that. Barry and Frost race over, where Barry realizes the doctor has truly lost his mind (on Halloween night, no less).

Ramsey’s victims turn into zombies, attacking Frost and The Flash. I had to stop and laugh because we went from a superhero show to The Walking Dead for a good five minutes there. As you expect, Ramsey gets away and his victims turn into a bloody goo in the process. Barry is upset that he couldn’t stop Ramsey and vows to stop him even if it’s the last thing he does “on this Earth.”

Episode Notes

• Barry’s future fate also impacted Ralph, who was in a funk all episode. Despite Iris gifting him with a lead on Sue Dearbon, he didn’t seem to care.
• The final scene was truly emotional as Joe opens up to Barry about his own feelings, saying Barry doesn’t deserve to die after all he’s done for the city. Excuse me, I need another tissue.
• In an extra scene, we see Nash go into the tunnel from last week’s episode. He uses the crypto circuit that Cisco made for him and projects a holograph of what looks to be the Monitor (or very possibly the Anti-Monitor) entering a stone wall. Nash takes an axe and begins pounding away as the episode ends. So, does Crisis begin in Central City and go across the multiverse? I’m intrigued.
