Exclusive Interview with Danielle Nicolet from ‘The Flash’

Season 6 of The Flash just kicked off on The CW and I got the chance to talk with Danielle Nicolet, who plays Cecile Horton. I got her thoughts on the new season and so much more. Read on to see what she had to say about the audition process, working on the show, and what to expect in the new season.
First off, tell me how you got the role of Cecile Horton on The Flash. What was your audition process like?
Actually, I didn’t audition for the show. I was first offered the role of Cecile in season one. The intention was for me to recur as Jesse’s love interest and have my character grow from there. Fun Fact: I appeared very briefly in 2 episodes of season one. I was cut from the second episode when producers found out that the pilot for “Born Again Virgin” was picked up. When BAV was canceled after two seasons, the producer of The Flash called me up and said, “So… do you want to finish what we started?” I leaped at the chance and joined the show in season 3.
We’ve seen Cecile transform over the course of the show. She started out as the DA, she joined Team Flash and now she even has her own special powers. What has it been like to play this character from so many different angles?
It’s been a blast!!! Every season I look forward to learning what my new journey will be. That is a gift that an actor doesn’t often receive on a television series. It keeps my job exciting.
You and Jesse L. Martin seem to have had natural chemistry since day one. What is it like working with him as a scene partner?
That’s a fact. We bonded from the moment we met. I’ve only had a few times in my career where I’ve worked with someone that it felt like I didn’t have to try. Working with Jess is effortless and I’m so grateful I get to do it for a long run.
We’re gearing up for season 6 of The Flash. What can fans expect this season, especially leading up to the huge crossover event?
I’m never sure what exactly I’m allowed to say but… Cecile is going through yet another transformation this season. As her powers grow, the strengths she has to offer to the team and her own job grow as well. D.A. Cecile Horton is not going to be the District Attorney for much longer.
Kind of going off of that, if you could give a piece of advice to anyone out there who wants to pursue a career in acting, what would you tell them and why?
My advice to anyone who wants to pursue a career in acting is to go for it!!!! Although, I have a couple of caveats: You have to recognize that acting is an art form. It requires passion, study, and an adventurous spirit. If you only want to be famous, then it’s not for you. If you have a real need to express yourself and explore different characters and points of view, there’s always room for another talent in Hollywood!
Let’s end this interview with some fun questions: Which would you rather have – Frost’s ice powers, Barry’s speed or Cecile’s telepathic abilities?
Oooooh, that’s a tough one. Let’s see, if I had Barry’s speed, I could travel the whole world without buying a plane ticket. If I had Frost’s powers, I could be a total badass who took no sh*t. But with Cecile’s powers, I would know when people are lying, and I would know how they really feel. I think I have to choose Barry’s speed. There’s just too much to see and airplane food is the worst.
Did you have a favorite superhero growing up? If so, which one was it?
Hands down: WONDER WOMAN. I even had Wonder Woman pajamas and I wore them all day, every day. Those bracelets!
Finally, our website is called Talk Nerdy With Us because we all have an inner nerd. What is something you are currently nerding out about?
That list is usually pretty long. Top 3: Cultivating the perfect Pandora playlist. 2: My pug puppy, Biggie Smalls 3: Weird Podcasts.
Be sure to keep up with Danielle on Twitter and Instagram. The Flash airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
