‘America’s Got Talent’ recap: The best and worst acts from Week 4 of auditions
The auditions for Season 14 of America’s Got Talent are starting to come to an end. With just a few weeks left, Tuesday’s episode saw more weird, fun, and emotional performances from the latest batch of acts hoping to make it through to the next round.
In case you missed it, here are the best and worst acts from the fourth week of auditions.
The Best
Voices of Service
The quartet of veterans and active duty service members proved that God has plans for us all as the took to the AGT stage, performing a beautiful rendition of Katy Perry’s “Rise”. In their pre-packaged videotape (VT), they all explained how you cannot take life for granted because when you’re deployed, sometimes there is no guarantee you will return home.
Overall, the group did well and really made a connection with the audience. I would be surprised if they did not make it into the live show rounds.
Marcin Patrzalek
The 18-year-old from Poland gave one of the strongest performances of the night as he captivated the audience and judges using only his guitar.
Marcin brilliantly combined Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and System of a Down’s “Toxicity”, turning it into one heck of a performance. Not only was it sonically pleasing but it was a talent that I had not seen on AGT in 14 seasons. Very cool!
Detroit Youth Choir
Host Terry Crews had this week’s Golden Buzzer and he used it to send a very important message all while giving one act hope for the future.
The final act of the night was Detroit Youth Choir from Flint, Michigan – which just so happens to be Crews’ hometown. They performed a cool rendition of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Can’t Hold Us,” which saw them not only sing, but dance and rap as well.
As the judges went to vote, Crews came out and gave them the biggest reward of all.
“Every young woman and man on this stage represents me and where I came from,” an emotional Crews said. “I remember sitting at my window in Flint, Michigan, dreaming and wanting to make it, and wanting to be here. And they’re here. They did so well! I have to do this!”
While I am not a fan of choirs, this group sold it and has me looking forward to what they do in the next round.
The Worst
Andy Rowell
This week’s worst act of the night award belongs to Andy Rowell. The “karaoke singer” took to the stage and performed the classic “Tequila!” song. I’m not even kidding when I say the only word he sang was “Tequila”. While it was hilarious, it was not worth a second audition and passing him through to the next round.
Episode Notes:
- As we approach the end of auditions, judges Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union are starting to settle into their own. I’m really coming around to Hough as a judge on the panel and hope she stays for a long time.
- Meanwhile, Terry Crews really shined tonight as he reminded viewers of longtime host Nick Cannon. He came out to play the flute with an act to Genuwine’s “Pony” and had everyone laughing.
