Dennis Haysbert is best known for his role as President David Palmer on 24 or his many iconic appearances in the Allstate Insurance commercials.
I got the chance to talk to Dennis ahead of the National Memorial Day Concert in Washington, D.C. We talked about what it means to him to be a part of the concert, what he nerds out about and more! Keep reading to see what he had to say!
So we’re here for the 30th anniversary of the National Memorial Day Concert. What does it mean to you to be a part of this event?
What it means is that we get to bring some stories to life that most people will never hear. We just want to make you feel something.
What does Memorial Day mean to you?
What it means to me is that we’ve lost a lot of lives, a lot of valuable, wonderful lives. Brothers, sisters, fathers. I’d just like to see it end. I’d like to live in a time where there’s no chance of that happening, not even a chance of war.
Is this your first time coming and being a part of this event?
No, this is the second time.
So what made you want to come back?
Oh god, the same reason I came the first time. To tell some stories, to make some people feel some things and
Do you ave any current projects you’re working on that you can share?
Everything is pretty much in the can now. Looking forward to doing some more. I have Breakthrough in the theaters right now, I have a Netflix film that should be debuting in July called Secret Obsession, and coming out later this year we should have Playing with Fire.
Last question — we’re called Talk Nerdy With Us because we all have an inner nerd so what is something that you’re currently nerding out about?
Nerding out over, hm… I guess there’s a lot of good shows that I like to watch and nerd out over.
You’re a big binge-watcher?
Yeah, shows like The OA, Colony, and Game of Thrones of course. But there’s many.
