How does ‘America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ work? Here’s what we know

The wait is finally over! The search for the greatest act in the world begins tonight with the premiere of America’s Got Talent: The Champions. The show will air every week for the next month.

But with a shortened season, how exactly has the format been tweaked? Here’s everything we know about how the elimination process works and who decides the winner.

50 of the greatest acts from the Got Talent franchises around the world came to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium to compete for the chance to be crowned the best act in the world.

Every week, for five weeks, 10 acts will perform for the judges and the crowd inside the auditorium. Only two acts will go through each week, leaving the top 10 to perform next month. Of those ten finalists, five will be given a golden buzzer from the judges as well as host Terry Crews.

That’s right! Judges Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell along with Crews will personally send one act into the finals.

The other will be voted into the finals by a group of “superfans” (think superdelegates in a political race). According to NBC, the superfans “represent the entire country with delegates from all 50 states.”

Since the entire Champions edition is pre-taped, the winner will also be decided solely by the superfans. February 11 will see the top 10 perform for the final time with the superfan audience voting for the winner that night and the results being revealed in the February 18 finale.
