‘Arrow’ 7×10 recap: Emiko Queen’s backstory is revealed and is future Felicity really dead?
WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Arrow Season 7, Episode 10 titled “My Name Is Emiko Queen.” Do not read if you have not seen the episode or read ahead at your own risk.
The show opened with Emiko Queen (Sea Shimooka) doing her own voiceover in the show intro. I thought this was a really nice touch since the entire show would be about her and her backstory.
Meanwhile, Oliver (Stephen Amell) officially began working for the SCPD; he helped out Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) with the evidence backlog and took a blood sample from a shattered window to Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) to have it tested. That is when Olly got the shock of his life as his wife told him the blood sample confirmed the “New Green Arrow” is a woman and is Robert Queen’s daughter.
A stunned Oliver says if Emiko wanted to reach out, she would have. However, Felicity is determined to find out more. She finds out that Robert made reoccurring payments to a storage facility but used his wife’s name instead. Oliver finds the unit and goes through the boxes and finds a letter from Robert to his long-time friend Walter Steele. In the letter, Robert asks him to take care of Kazumi Hadachi and the daughter they had together.
Well, that was most definitely not something I expected!
This angered Oliver for two reasons. The first being he did not expect his father to abandon them like that and the second reason being his mother.
Rene (Rick Gonzalez) tracked down Emiko and he got more insight as to why she is there. She wants to get justice for her mother, who was killed in the Glades. Emiko traced the bullet back to a William Glenmorgan (okay, really? C’mon. Of all the names you would have possibly picked, you choose yet another William?!). But after this William says he is innocent, Rene insists on helping Emiko get justice for her mother. Is this how Rene goes down this dark path? I guess we will soon find out.
The episode ends with Oliver visiting and meeting Emiko for the first time. This adds a whole new dynamic to the picture; after Thea left to go off with Roy (what’s going on with that, anyway?), it will be nice to see Oliver with a sister-like bond with someone again.
The other plot of the episode saw viewers visit the future and we may have got a hint of who may have allegedly killed Felicity. Future Zoe (Andrea Sixtos) went to visit future Rene, who is now the MAYOR. He really stepped up in the future, didn’t he?
Anyway, Zoe tells him about the bombing schematics found at Felicity’s bunker and wants to use the Archer security system to track down the bomber, but Rene declined. Future and still-hot Dinah personally reminded Rene of the vow they, Roy, Diggle, Oliver, and Felicity have to “fight no matter what.”
Rene talks to his boss about the bombing plan and Felicity’s death. The boss explains that “Ms. Smoak was becoming a liability.” But when asked if Rene is backing out, he replied “Naw Hoss.” WHAT?! Is Rene part of the plan to completely level Star City?
Episode Notes:
- Can we talk about how BAD future Rene’s hairpiece was? I thought Donald Trump had bad hair…
- Diggle (David Ramsey) went behind Lyla’s back and made Diaz part of the new group known as the Suicide Squad. He’s probably sleeping on the couch now.
