Adam Levine slammed by ‘The Voice’ fans for throwing own artist under bus
There is controversy on The Voice and Adam Levine is coming under fire.
Tuesday night’s results show saw DeAndre Nico and Reagan Strange, two members of Team Adam, along with Team Blake’s Dave Fenley in the bottom three and in danger of going home.
Host Carson Daly informed viewers that Reagan was unable to perform or even be on stage due to being sick. She was in the audience in full hair and makeup, wearing a robe, and watching the results. DeAndre sang a rendition of John Legend’s “All of Me” and Dave performed “Amazed”.
But when the instant save window opened, Levine did something no Voice coach has done. Ever. He sacrificed DeAndre for Reagan, who, again, did not even perform.
“There is a little, an unbelievably talented, little girl right now who is not able to fight for her position on this show, and you were fortunate enough tonight to be able to sing,” he said. “And man, you sang like a champ. This guy sang like a champ. So, I can’t sing, I can’t sing for Reagan. Reagan has to sing for Reagan and she’s not here.”
He continued: “And it’s really, really hard for me not to just, as much as I urge you all to vote for this man, ‘cause he should never have been in the bottom, I don’t know if I have the heart to not tell everyone right now, I have a very, a very special relationship with Reagan. And I have two little girls at home. The thought of breaking her heart by not urging everyone to give this girl a shot, to go and redeem herself next week, would be too far beneath me. So, I want you to know, I love you, I appreciate what you’ve done here tonight, and honestly, I think you should both be there. But I got to fight for my girl, and I gotta make sure that I represent her properly in this moment because she didn’t have a chance to use her voice tonight. So I’m going to use it for her as well as I possibly can to make sure she can make it next week.”
To make things worse, Carson informed viewers they could still vote for Reagan to advance despite not showing her performance from the night before. There was literally nothing to base the save vote off other than Levine’s pitch.
The look on DeAndre’s face as the show went into the commercial break said it all. And fans let Levine know exactly how they felt on social media:
Adam Lavine lost it. The show is called The Voice, not The Adam Levine Show. No future contestant should trust him as a coach. Totally threw DeAndre under the bus. Time to retire Adam. #voiceresults @adamlevine

@adamlevine #VoiceResults I Hope you know, you just ruined the chance for Reagan to win to! I won’t ever vote team Adam ever again no matter how good you team member is! You are an Ass whole! You took DeAndre’s moment away from him! He just wanted to cry because of you!!

As a result, Reagan was saved by the viewers and put into the next round. But before the results were announced, Levine had one final thing to tell DeAndre.
“You have a lot of fans,” he said. “Take those fans and build upon those fans and make a career for yourself, regardless of what the outcome is right now.”
There are eight artists left in the competition. Two from Team J-Hud, three from Team Kelly, two from Team Blake, and Adam has just Reagan remaining.

The Voice continues next Monday and Tuesday on NBC with the live semifinals.
