Hegazy Releases New Politically-Charged Song “Here to Stay”

HEGAZY, the indie-soul/pop duo comprised of twins Leila and Omnia Hegazy, has teamed up with PopMatters to premiere their second single, “Here To Stay.” You can see the video for the song below while the song itself will be released on their highly-anticipated EP, Young, in early 2018.
The song is about the xenophobia that has become normalized in our current political climate, and pokes fun at all of the stereotypes people have about immigrants. More specifically, the chorus and song title is a direct reference to the #HereToStay movement centered on immigrant rights and the removal of DACA.
On the song and video, Hegazy states, “We are first generation Arab-American women who grew up Muslim in the age of 9/11 and we know what it’s like to be treated as ‘the other.’ We decided to take our president’s fear-mongering rhetoric and flip it on its head to be empowering. Yes, we are coming, we’re here to stay, and we are what America looks like, whether you like it or not.”
