In Memoriam: A Final Farewell to the Characters We Hated Losing in 2016

The Grim Reaper didn’t shy away from looming over fictional worlds in 2016, and he took, took, and took some more.  The deaths were heartbreaking, and some were quite controversial, and our hearts are still shattered.

In no particular order, here are the characters that we hated saying goodbye to in 2016.  If you hear crying, it’s probably us.

Barb holland – stranger things

Cause of Death: Victim of the Demogorgon

There was minimal screen time for you, but you still stole our hearts and amassed a cult following.

Cause of Death: Blood loss after being hit by a stray bullet

In the words of Sleeping At Last, you taught us the courage of stars before you left.  Your spirit lives on in the hearts of all those you’ve touched.  Reshop, Heda.

abbie mills – sleepy hollow

Cause of Death: Sacrificed herself by stepping into Pandora’s box

You were always understanding, patient, and kind, and you showcased your bravery even after death.

Vanessa Ives – Penny Dreadful

Cause of Death: Gunshot

You battled your demons and made the ultimate sacrifice.  May you find peace on the other side.

Lincoln kom trikru – the 100

Cause of Death: Executed – gunshot wound to the head

Ge smak daun, gyon op nodotaim.  You were strong and loyal even in your final moments.

wes gibbins – how to get away with murder

Cause of Death: Murdered

Fans were wondering who was under the sheet all season, but now we are wishing that we had never found out.

hodor – game of thrones

Cause of Death: Torn apart by wights

Your dedication to holding the door was truly respectable.  Hodor.

abraham ford – the walking dead

Cause of Death: Lucilled

You managed to create a life worth living in the “vast ocean of shit,” you were living through.

Angus Mhor – outlander

Cause of Death: Undiagnosed internal bleeding

You did your best out on the battlefield and saved your best friend.  We will never be over you, Angus.

chris manawa – fear the walking dead

Cause of Death: Gunshot wound to the head

Your actions may have been questionable, but you gave us an interesting character arc to watch.

Poussey Washington – orange is the new black

Cause of Death: Suffocated

Outspoken.  Caring.  Intelligent.  You won’t soon be forgotten, Poussey.

glenn rhee – the walking dead

Cause of Death: Lucilled

From pizza delivery boy to soon to be father, you came so far from just being walker bait.
