Selena Gomez Taking Time Off to Focus on Her Mental Health

We can all agree that 2016 is, so far, one of her best years to date. Selena Gomez launched her latest album, Revival, in 2015, but she’s been enjoying the joys it’s brought her ever since. Whatsmore, a few months ago she became the most followed person on Instagram and she’s also considered one of the most loved celebrities thanks to the outpouring love and gratitude she always shows towards her fans.

If you’ve been following her career for a while, or if you haven’t been living under a rock for the past two years, you might -remember that before her new album came out she disappeared from the spotlight for a while. Tabloids were quick to blame substance abuse, which sadly isn’t that strange in Hollywood, but it is for someone who’s never really gotten into that kind of trouble. However, Selena herself admitted to Billboard in early 2015 that she’d been away from the public eye due to being diagnosed with lupus.“That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” she said. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes.”

Now, in the middle of her Revival tour, which is one of the most successful tours this year, she has decided to take some time off. The artist released a statement to PEOPLE about how she needed to focus on herself and her well-being for a while, saying, “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. […]  I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.” As the co-CEO of the Lupus Research Alliance, Kenneth M. Farber, said, depression, anxiety and panic attacks are often overlooked as side effects of the autoimmune disease lupus. Ever since she released the statement, both fans and medical experts have openly congratulated and thanked the artist on her bravery for speaking up about the issue.

According to Gossip Cop, sources close to the actress and singer have assured that “she decided to clear her calendar for the year in order to have this be her priority for future happiness”, which is being backed up by the fact that different ticket-selling companies are retiring her upcoming tour dates from their websites – no word on whether those dates will be postponed or not. In any case, neither Selena nor anyone from her team have confirmed anything regarding the remaining legs of her Revival tour, although the truth is it’s not looking good.

I, for one, know that it’s like to struggle with mental health, and although I have tickets to one of her shows in November, I profoundly understand the necessity to take some time off for yourself if you feel like that’s what you need. Here at Talk Nerdy With Us we are very proud of her and her decision and we’d like to wish Selena a speedy recovery and hope she’s back on track and better than ever in no time.
