Gregg Sulkin Joins Young & Hungry
Gregg Sulkin will join the Young & Hungry family this week, introducing us to Rick in “Young & Assistant.” Rick is the noisy, but very attractive, upstairs neighbor to Gabi and Sofia. He is a musician, whose band has just moved from the UK and is looking for a new member. When his constant blaring music finally breaks Sofia, an unexpected flirtationship begins.

After successfully landing a job as a music blogger, Sofia might be taking it up a notch and becoming a full-fledged musician. However, we sadly won’t be seeing any demonstrations of the team’s musical talents this week.
Sulkin is no stranger to Freeform, and has previously worked with series star Emily Osment, co-starring with her in Lifetime’s A Daughter’s Nightmare in 2014. The two have known each other for about seven years now. Both starred on Disney Channel earlier in their careers.
We got Sulkin on the phone to get the inside details on his experience with Young & Hungry, plus the best advice on picking up women he’s gotten.
We see Rick and Sofia hit it off right away, how was the chemistry working with Aimee Carrero?
She is FANTASTIC, and such a lovely girl too. She’s just a lovely, lovely girl. Really hardworking, very professional and just good at what she does. The whole episode was just a wonderful experience.
On your Instagram, it looks like you developed a bromance with Jonathan Sadowski as well. Will that carry over to the episode, or was that just behind the scenes?
(laughs) I mean, it’s going to carry on to real life too! I love Jonathan, he’s such, such a nice guy. He’s sort of like that big older brother. I really like him, I have a lot of respect for him.
When you first heard about the guest spot, what attracted you to the show and the character?
Well, I love sitcom and multi-cam [shows], so that was automatically an attraction. I’ve worked with Freeform before, so that was another attraction. There were a lot of things that made me say yes to the project. And I hadn’t done sitcom and multi-cam in a few years, so I was just so excited to get back into it.
In the episode sneak peek, Sofia arrives to “sweep you off your feet.” What’s the best pickup line you’ve ever used or heard?
I’ve never been good at one line “hey honey” that kind of thing. (laughs). But I would say the best one I’ve heard was from, actually, my father, which is strange. (laughs). He always said if I ever want to get a girl’s attention, who was sitting across a restaurant, that you should always send a bottle of the nicest water over to the table. Because most guys send champagne or a glass of wine. It’s my dad’s sense of humor, an English sense of humor. But it’s letting them know that you acknowledge them, but hold on, I don’t know you well enough to get you a glass of champagne yet.
But you’ve never used that?
I’ve never used that one, but I told my friends. I saw my friends yesterday and they’re like “Dude! It’s amazing! I’ve been using it, it’s incredible!” And I’m just like, well, just text my dad and thank him.
Will Rick the noisy, attractive neighbor musician stick around? Sulkin says there are lots of factors in determining that, and we’ll just have to wait and see. But, don’t give up hope. Sulkin says he stays in touch with Young & Hungry show runner David Holden.
