Clexa Fans Dominate the E!Online Polls

It’s been more than a month since I last wrote about the Clexa fandom and, unsurprisingly, their determination and strength are still going strong.  This past weekend, they showed just how passionate and powerful they are by winning nine out of the eleven E!online TV Scoop Awards they were nominated for, beating out countless other major shows and fandoms, some of which purposefully fought against the Clexa fans.

By winning these polls, not only are they continuing their fight against unequal representation of the LGBT community in the media today, but they are also thanking and appreciating Eliza Taylor and Alycia Debnam-Carey, the two amazing actresses who brought the beautiful Clexa relationship to life on The 100.

In some categories, the fans won by a landslide, and in others, it was a tight race, but the Clexa fandom managed to pull together and make sure that their voices are still being heard. They motivated each other on tumblr all weekend, taking pride in their joint efforts, and finally celebrating their accomplishments. Their ship may have been ruined and undervalued by the show, but it is still important and inspiring to so many fans.

Last year, the Clexa fans only won two awards: one for Best Kiss and one for Alycia Debnam-Carey as Best Guest Star.  This year, in addition to winning those same awards and losing in only two categories, Eliza Taylor won Best Drama Actress, Alycia Debnam-Carey won Best Female Breakout Star, Clexa won Steamiest Moment, Lexa and Roan’s arena battle won Best TV Fight, Lexa and Clarke’s goodbye won Most Heartbreaking Goodbye/Exit, Lexa’s death won the Moment that Made You Want to Throw Out Your TV (what an accurately titled award), and the Clexa fans won Best Fandom.

Lexa’s return in the season 3 finale didn’t win the Best Shocker award, but let’s be honest, it wasn’t even a shocker since we knew about it five months before the episode aired, and winning that award would have supported the harmful baiting the showrunner did to us in January.

The Clexa ship also lost the Best Couple award, but even though it was the runner-up (which is an amazing feat), it is still an impressive victory for the LGBT Fans Deserve Better Movement because the Root & Shaw relationship from Person of Interest won.  These two powerful, important relationships were the top two nominees and gathered a majority of the votes, beating out the usual contenders.

Once again, like the fans’ other successes and achievements, this victory should not be mistaken as a win for The 100 itself.  It is a direct result of the fans’ love for Clarke and Lexa, their relationship, and for the actresses who portrayed one of the most unique, beautiful, complex, and magnetic relationships on TV.  It is truly a one-of-a-kind fandom and relationship, and Eliza Taylor and Alycia Debnam-Carey deserve this recognition and thanks for their phenomenal portrayal of it.

I’m a Clexa fan myself, and I voted so much that “I’m not a robot” has become part of my identity and my dreams were plagued with storefronts and pickup trucks, so maybe I’m a tad bit biased, but for all the good they’ve done and for all the success they’ve achieved, I’d say this is a legendary fandom.  It may not be huge, but it is strong and their fight is definitely not over.
