Coheed and Cambria Announce UK Headling Tour

Coheed and Cambria announced today that they’ll be headlining a tour in the United Kingdom with La Dispute and mewithoutyou as support.

The band is adding additional August dates in support of their most recent studio album The Color Before the Sun. The album is the first fully non-conceptual album by the band; their first seven releases follow the plot of Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon in The Amory Wars.

Though some songs from the previous albums reflect inner feelings of the band members, The Color Before the Sun is the first to be a complete showing of emotions, especially from frontman Claudio Sanchez. Sanchez recently became a father, and along with other events in his life, felt compelled to put nothing but raw emotion into the eighth studio album.

“I kind of want people to know that Coheed can write that sort of record,” states Sanchez. “I’ve always said in the past that there’s never been a limitation on the band. It makes no sense to me to draw a line in the sand and never cross it.”

This doesn’t mean that Coheed will not be returning to The Amory Wars, however. The band has every intention to return to the storyline and give fans more about their favorite characters.

I’ve seen Coheed live once before, and if I ever get the chance to see them perform again, I wouldn’t even hesitate looking at the price of tickets; I’d just purchase them and go, because the group is unlike any other I’ve seen live. The atmosphere is completely different from any other concert. It’s probably the most accepting and most inclusive concert environment in which I’ve ever been, probably attributing to the fact that Coheed is considered a “cult band” (no, they don’t sing about rituals and the like).

The songs that follow The Amory Wars are catchy, yet sinister, and tend to include parts to which the whole audience can chime in and sing. Though The Color Before the Sun lacks in being sinister, the songs are still impactful and addicting. As the group has described before, Coheed is a band entirely for the fans, and it’s the fans that keep them going, something that is very telling when they’re onstage and Claudio is dancing as he shreds on guitar behind a wild curtain of curly brown hair. It’s something that every person should experience in a concert.

I envy anyone that gets to see them in the U.K. with La Dispute and mewithoutyou. Tickets for the August dates go on sale this Friday, May 20th at 10 am local time. You can purchase tickets on Coheed and Cambria’s website, or at gigsandtours.com. Tour dates can be found below.
