The Avett Brothers Release New Single “Ain’t No Man”
“I think of ‘Ain’t No Man’ as a self-motivating anthem…a kind of currency to buy a little courage when you’re having trouble feeling courageous on your own,” says Seth Avett about the first single from upcoming album True Sadness. Following last month’s performances at SXSW, Billboard has already claimed True Sadness as one the “Most Anticipated Rock Albums” of 2016. According to a letter penned by Seth Avett himself, the new album reflects the members’ evolution both in musical and personal aspects over the last 16 years of their career.
“Ain’t No Man” dropped this past Friday on all digital retailers. The alternative folk group has produced a catchy, empowering tune with this new single. It’s minimalist in instrumentation but packed full of rhythm and soul the entire time. It’s a perfect song to put on when you’re feeling put down by something or someone and need the extra assurance that yes, you can do this because you are strong enough, and though you don’t need anyone else to prove it to you, it’s still nice to have the recognition. It’s my first exposure to The Avett Brothers music, but based off this song, I don’t think it’ll be my last.
In addition to the new single, The Avett Brothers have announced new tour dates for this summer, though their North American headline tour is still going full swing. The group recently played their first performance at Madison Square Garden, which has been highly regarded by fans and critics alike.

With all the excitement of new music and tour dates, The Avett Brothers managed to kick it up one more notch by disclosing that they’ll be performing on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! on May 3rd! Along with “Ain’t No Man,” fans will be able to hear new music from the upcoming album during the performance on the Outdoor Stage in Hollywood.
