After the chilling second season finale of John Logan’s gothic horror spectacular, Penny Dreadful, last year, fans have been clamoring for anything they can get on what might happen in the third season. Though we’ve had several teasing answers over the past few months, we got our first true glimpse into the horror that awaits all of us as Showtime released a haunting new trailer yesterday. The trailer comes with new footage of the hit drama series, ahead of the much-anticipated third season premiere. Penny Dreadful is a frightening psychological thriller starring Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, and Timothy Dalton among many other talented actors.

Written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator), this season of Penny Dreadful sees the return of Patti LuPone, now a series regular in the role of Dr. Seward, but who guest starred last season as the Cut-Wife. Wes Studi (Hell on Wheels) also joins the series as a regular where he’ll portray Kaetenay, a mystifying Native American with ties to Ethan. Beyond these stars, the third season will also add Dr. Henry Jekyll who, if the past two seasons have been any indication, may very well come with his counterpart from Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale. Guest stars for the third season will include Christian Camargo (Dexter), Sam Barnett (Jupiter Ascending), Jessica Barden (The Outcast) and the return of fan favorites such as Reeve Carney’s Dorian Gray, Billie Piper’s Lily, Harry Treadaway’s Dr. Frankenstein, and Rory Kinnear as Frankenstein’s Creature.

Penny Dreadful is created, written and executive produced by John Logan along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road) as well as Karen Richards (The Borgias). Penny Dreadful is a co-production with Showtime and Sky.

You can watch the new trailer below and be sure to tune in Sunday, May 1 at 10 P.M. ET/PT on-air, on demand or over the internet to catch the premiere.
