Talk Nerdy With Us Weekly TV Superlative Awards (January 31st-February 6th)

Hello again, lovelies. I hope you all had a great week! Are you ready for this week’s superlatives? Because I am!
HERE’S THIS WEEK’S
TALK NERDY WITH US WEEKLY TV SUPERLATIVE AWARDS:
BEST ONE-LINER: iZombie
“I’ve always felt a connection to her” – Liv Moore
iZombie creator Rob Thomas has never been shy about including little nods to his previous television venture, Veronica Mars, in his new zombie comedy. The similarities between the two are uncanny. For starters, both shows feature a petite blonde woman solving crimes while dealing with a complicated love life. Even more entertaining for Veronica Mars fans are the subtle easter eggs from the earlier show that are usually hidden in every episode of iZombie. This episode was no different. When Liv Moore munches on a murdered librarian’s brain, she realizes that the librarian also happened to be an erotica author with a very active sex drive. To further investigate the case, Liv and Clive listen to an audiobook of the dead librarian’s novel which has been recorded by Veronica Mars herself. As if that wasn’t an easter egg big enough to send Veronica Mars fans screaming, upon reading that the audiobook features Kristen Bell’s voice, Liv remarks that she has always felt a connection to the actress. The only thing that could outdo this would be Kristen Bell herself actually appearing on the show. Make it happen, Rob Thomas!
MOST BADASS CHARACTER: legends of tomorrow
sara lance
We have been well familiarized by Sara Lance and her tragic yet exceptionally badass story through Legend‘s predecessor show Arrow. Still, it is infinitely more satisfying to watch our favorite blonde assassin be a main star of a show and get to kick ass on a regular basis. Sara’s fighting skills, learned from her time with the League of Assassin no doubt, are a beauty to watch. This episode, we saw her almost singlehandedly fight a group of trained mercenaries and bad guys with an armor of hidden knives. Later, we saw her disarm a couple of guards working for Vandal as well as show her prowess in an ensemble fight along with the rest of the Legends against Vandal Savage’s minions. Sigh. Sara Lance is a woman of magic. Not only is she incredibly badass and equipped to kill you with one suave knife-throw, but she is also exceptionally beautiful and manages to be quite possibly one of the most adorable people on the planet. Teach me your ways, you wonderful White Canary!
MOST lovable CHARACTER: supernatural
jody mills
While Supernatural has always been a story about two brothers, it has had its fair share of amazing supporting characters. Even though we don’t usually get to keep them as long as their male counter parts, many of these wonderful characters are charming and badass ladies. Jody Mills is most definitely one of them and hopefully we will never have to say a permanent good-bye to her, like ever. Not only is Jody an accomplished Sheriff and an evolving hunter, but she is a fiercely loyal woman with a heart of gold. After losing her family to a minor zombie apocalypse back in season 5, Jody became a trusted friend and ally to the Winchesters. Not only has she been a great friend since then, but she has also been a kind of mother figure to Sam and Dean. Recently, she took in Alex and Claire under her care after their lives were turned upside down. This episode, we see Jody try to be a good mother to the two teenaged girls while also being a wonderful host to Sam and Dean. Can Jody adopt me too please?
best kiss: THE good wife
Alicia and Jason
Alicia Florrick has been flirting heavily with Jason, her private investigator, for what feels like forever. When Eli dropped the Will Gardner voicemail bomb a few weeks ago, it seemed as though any chance of new romance for Alicia was gone. But Luca was able to bring Alicia back from the brink, inspiring her to go after the man she wants in the present. And go after him she did. A perfect elevator kiss followed, one that’s had us rewinding our DVR over and over and over… (Contributed by Tamar Barbash)
MOST SWOONWORTHY SCENE: the 100
lexa bows to clarke
After Commander Lexa betrayed Clarke in last season finale, Clexa fans were left a little dejected. It didn’t take long for the two to reunite, though, as the Ice Queen had put out a bounty on Clarke’s head and Lexa ordered Roan to capture Clarke for Lexa. The initial reunion was shaky (albeit full of sexual tension) as Clarke spit in Lexa’s face and told her she would kill her. This episode, however, we saw Clarke put her personal emotions aside to enter in an alliance with the Commander one more time for the greater good of her people. This required Clarke to bow to Lexa in front of ambassadors from all 12 clans to show the Sky People’s induction into the alliance as the 13th clan. The most interesting part of the new alliance between the two came, however, when Lexa bowed down to Clarke in private at the end of the episode and swore fealty to her. Clarke was clearly surprised by the gesture. After all, the Commander does not bow down to anyone. It was a testament to Lexa’s feelings for Clarke and her remorse over the betrayal that had caused Clarke to hate her last season.
biggest otp moment: shadowhunters
magnus comforts alec
Fans of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series have been impatient waiting to see one of their most beloved OTPs come to life on the screen. This week Shadowhunters delivered and fans got a sweet first glimpse of Malec (Magnus and Alec). After proper introductions and facing a memory demon who caused more havoc than they bargained for, fans witnessed the most poignant Malec moment of the night. To his horror, Alec’s true feelings for his parabatai Jace were revealed, and upon realizing how truly terrified he was, Magnus dropped his passing innuendos and less-than-subtle flirting to offer him solace by telling him “there’s nothing to be ashamed of”. We cannot wait to see how Magnus will continue to comfort and aid Alec this season as they both grow into the people and couple we all love. (Contributed by Sam Pedley)
MOST EMOTIONAL SCENE: agent carter
peggy learns her brother is dead
Prior to this episode, we hadn’t learned much of Peggy’s history from before she met Steve Rogers during World War II. It was very interesting to finally get to see who Peggy was and what led her to join the SOE in the first place. We learned that Peggy was sort of a tomboy who enjoyed sparring with her brother more than acting like a “lady” much to her mother’s chagrin. However, later we see that Peggy grew up to live the kind of perfect and boring life her mother would approve, putting all her tomboyish desires behind her, which leads her to decline an offer to join SOE as a spy during the war. At her engagement party (yes, Peggy was engaged! Gasp!) her brother confronts her about her life and questions her on why she turned down the job he had recommended for her. Even through this very tiny scene, we are shown the beautiful relationship between the sibling and how much her brother cares for her and her dreams. It isn’t until much closer to her wedding that Peggy finally gives up this charade of a life and pursues her dreams at the SOE after she learns that her brother has died in battle in the war. The scene was incredibly tearjerking to start with, but Hayley Atwell’s beautiful performance made it even more gut wrenching. It is this pivotal point in Peggy’s life that finally makes her pursue her true dreams and become the woman we know her to be.
MOST HEARTBREAKING MOMENT: THE 100
clarke stays in polis and bellamy storms off
After the epic reunion that Clarke and Bellamy had last week, who could have imagined the two would say goodbye on such a bitter note? Of course, things have changed drastically in between their emotional reunion last week and the summit encounter this week. After being captured by Roan and brought to Polis, Clarke goes through stages of emotions until she finally decides to put her personal vengeance aside and ally herself with Lexa once again. Bellamy is not privy to any of these developments since he has been benched by Kane for his earlier actions and is not allowed to go to Polis with the delegation. While Kane, Abby, and Clarke are in Polis at the summit and accepting their induction into the alliance, Bellamy receives word from Echo that the summit is a trap and the delegation is in danger. Bellamy being Bellamy, takes Octavia and Pike and sets out for Polis immediately to warn Clarke and co. It isn’t until they break into the summit that Raven announces over the radio that the Ice Nation attacked Mount Weather instead and killed everyone there, including Bellamy’s girlfriend, Gina. After Lexa arrests the Ice Nation delegation, Bellamy tells Clarke she needs to come home with her people because Lexa will never care for anyone but her own people. Clarke, of course, cannot leave as she has to stay behind as an ambassador and ensure Lexa keeps her word. Bellamy, who already does not like Lexa much since she left him to die at Mount Weather, is not happy to see Clarke stay. Can we really blame him? He does not know as much about Lexa and her crew as Clarke does and the guy just lost his girlfriend and a ton of friends in an attack by the grounders (even though it was Ice Nation). Bellamy flashes Clarke the coldest look possible, the likes of which we haven’t seen since early season 1, and storms off, leaving Clarke looking heavily upset. The moment was incredibly heartbreaking, especially after seeing Bellamy risk everything to get Clarke to safety in the last episode. It’s hard to see these two at odds considering that their relationship has always been the heart of the show, but this is by no means the first time the two have butted heads. If the extended season 3 trailer is anything to go by, Bellamy and Clarke will eventually find their way back to each other like they tend to. So don’t be too heartbroken, Bellarkers!
MOST HEARTFELT REUNION: arrow
thea and roy
Arrow broke our hearts when it decided to send Roy off on his own and away from Star City. It was incredibly lovely to see him return for a short visit this week. Seeing him reunite with all members of Team Arrow was very heartwarming, but the most heartfelt moment was to see Thea and Roy reunite. Roy goes to visit Thea, who has been left bedridden by the effects of the Lazarus Pit resurrection. Thea is over the moon to see him once again and the two share a very sweet moment. Roy tells her that he has to leave again and the two share an emotional hug and mutual “I love you”s which left us looking desperately for several tissue boxes. Hopefully this isn’t the last we see of Roy!
MOST HEARTWARMING MOMENT: arrow
felicity overcomes her self-doubt
Felicity Smoak is an incredible woman. We have seen her break through some serious hurdles in the past, and now we get to see her resolve tested even more after she loses the use of both of her legs because of a gunshot injury. This episode, we see Felicity continue to struggle with her newfound need for a wheelchair as she prepares to present the company’s newest product in a board meeting. In a run-through of the meeting, Felicity gets riddled with self-doubt and ends up doing a not-so-stellar job. This leads a member of the BoD to rather insensitively ask her to get someone else to do the presentation since she isn’t really able to put her “best foot forward.” Later in the episode, Curtis tells Felicity that she is a force of nature and she shouldn’t let her wheelchair diminish her self-confidence. After the uplifting pep talk from Curtis, Felicity finally lets her self-doubt go and gives an absolutely stellar presentation at the meeting, leading to a round of applause by the board of directors. It was truly a heartwarming moment and I am really glad the show is focusing on Felicity’s struggles and triumphs as she gets used to her new situation.
Honorable Mention: Legends of Tomorrow (Leonard visits his younger self)
FUNNIEST SCENE: izombie
liv and clive listen to “The upright position”
iZombie is a hilarious show overall, but every once in a while, Liv gets stuck eating a particularly amusing brain that leaves us in a fit of giggles. This episode was most definitely one of those. It was difficult to pick one particular scene since most of the episode was filled with hilarious situations. Still, I just couldn’t pass up this particular scene, not only because it was the wonderful Kristen Bell reading the audiobook, but also because the parody of Fifty Shades of Grey combined with Rose McIver’s incredible performance was just too much to pass up. The book itself was hilarious to listen to in its incredibly over-the-top silly attempts at erotica, but even more funny was watching Liv’s reaction to it equipped with the author’s erotic brain.
Honorable Mention: Supernatural (Jody gives the sex-talk over dinner)
best buddy moment: supernatural
alex and claire
I have to admit, I haven’t always been the biggest fan of Claire Novak because of her middle-school angst act that we have been witnessing since she was first reintroduced to us. Because of this, I was not looking forward to this episode. And yet, I found myself incredibly entertained by the episode as we got to see the return of not only Jody but also the reluctant sisterhood between Alex and Claire. The two are clearly at odds since Alex and Jody seem to have a wonderful relationship that Claire feels left out of. However, by the end of the episode, we see the two finally come together to fight against the vampire that is holding Jody, Claire, and Alex hostage. I hope we get to see more of these three lovely ladies.
BEST ACTION SCENE: arrow
nyssa and tatsu fight
DC TV verse seems to have exclusive hold over this category. It was a hard pick between Arrow and Legends this week, but I just couldn’t pass up on an epic one-on-one duel and Arrow ended up winning the category. It was lovely to get to see Tatsu and Nyssa return to the show, but it was even more exciting to watch the two badass ladies duel in a perfectly matched fight. One-on-one duels, especially ones that involve knives and swords, are my absolute favorites so it was an extreme delight to watch this particular scene in all of its wonderful choreography. I would love to see Arrow return to this type of action sequences more so in the future.
BIGGEST PLOT-TWIST: THE 100
mount weather explodes
The 100 never fails to leave our jaws gaping with its well-crafted storytelling. And yet it was bold even for The 100 to have another massacre in a place we saw massacred just three episodes ago. I have to say, on the list of things I most definitely could NOT have expected from the show, this was probably the least expected. When Echo warned Bellamy and co of the trap at the summit, I foolishly fell for it just like our protagonists. When the assassin was revealed to be at Mount Weather instead and the facility actually got completely destroyed after near-successful attempts of Raven and Sinclair to stop the explosion, I had to pause the show so I could process what had just happened. This is without a doubt one of the best twists the show has pulled off and a great storytelling choice because not only does it set up for a possibly season-long conflict with the Ice Nation, but it also sets the Arkers back a considerable amount technologically. Having Mount Weather safe and sound would have been too easy for the Sky People because of all the resources and ease it could have provided them. Now, they are left back at square one and having to figure things out the hard way again. This show never fails to amaze me with its daring choices.
Honorable Mention: Arrow (The Calculator is Felicity’s father)
CUTEST SCENE: the flash
Wally brings iris flowers
The relationship between the West siblings hasn’t been the easiest. After having a heart-to-heart last week, they were once again thrown in troubled waters when Iris showed up to scold Wally over his reckless drag racing lifestyle. The storyline allowed for a great dynamic to unfold between the two as they were able to be at odds but also show their care for each other through their actions. The cutest scene out of the bunch was when Wally shows up with flowers to Iris’s hospital room after she is struck with a piece of glass when things go awry at his drag racing event. This relationship is one of the most interesting aspects of this half of the season and I hope we get to see a lot more of these two trying to work things out.
That’s it for this week! Don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments and let us know if we missed anything or if there are any categories you would like us to add! We will see you next week with more Talk Nerdy With Us Weekly TV Superlative Awards!
