A Discovery Of Witches TV Series In Works At Jane Tranter & Julie Gardner’s Bad Wolf
Deborah Harkness’ historical fantasy novel, A Discovery Of Witches, is the first installment in her All Souls Trilogy which has sold more than 3.5M copies around the world. The trilogy was originally released on February 8, 2011. The story of Diana Bishop, a direct descendant of the first woman executed in the Salem Witch Trials and the enigmatic 1,500-year-old vampire Matthew Clairmont twists and turns through present day Oxford, Massachusetts and Tudor London as they chase after clues that they’ve discovered in an enchanted manuscript.
We’ve learned that Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner’s UK/U.S. Bad Wolf production company has acquired TV rights and is developing a drama based on the book with a view to adapting all three in the series. The duo recently closed a deal with the BBC and New Line for an event series adaptation of Philip Pullman’s fantasy trilogy, His Dark Materials. Harkness’ work was previously in development with the BBC, but the project is no longer at the broadcaster and is being offered to other interested parties. Warner Bros acquired film rights in 2011, but there has been little to no movement on the project for the past few years. Bad Wolf owns only the TV rights.
Tranter, Gardner, Harkness and Pharoah are acting as executive producers for A Discovery Of Witches. The staff here at TNWU can’t wait!
