As the season 3 premiere of the CW’s sci-fi series The 100 looms around the corner, loyal viewers are impatiently awaiting its epic return January 21. The post-apocalyptic show has a shiny new Thursday night-time slot, following the series premiere of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and man are we ready!
Ever since the release of the full-length season 3 trailer, fans have been speculating where their favorite characters will end up this season: in bed with an unlikely suitor? Fighting a war that can’t be won? Or heaven forbid… dead? The fans are without a doubt worried about the longevity of their beloved warriors, but despite so much else going on in this exciting and unknown world there’s a special group of fans that might be focused on an element of the show a wee bit different than the “norm.” Shipping! Yes, the idea of pairing characters together and rooting for their ultimate happiness (or demise… things can get a bit catty). These fans have an alternate goal– focus on romantic entanglements rather than ya know, their faves keeping all of their appendages. Priorities, right… but who’s to say watching the show this way is ultimately wrong? Surely not me. I’m a shipper, lock me up in a nuclear shelter and drain my blood, because I’m guilty as charged!
But at the end of the day, friend or foe– we are all fans of the same show and watch it in our own way. I’ve always believed that we should support each other, the writers and the cast in a respectful manner. It’s okay to have differing opinions, and it’s okay to want to see two people get together on a show you love. Just remember there are other people as passionate as you are and deserve to have a voice as well.
Now that we’ve crossed our T’s and dotted our I’s, and are reminded not to tear down our fellow fans… let’s get to the good stuff.
