Milan Music to Release Golden Globe Nominated Soundtrack for The Revenant
The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, and directed by Mexican auteur Alejandro G. Iñárritu (whose 2014 Birdman won him critical acclaim, 4 Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Director, as well as multiple Golden Globes), is a western tale of brutality, survival and vengeance. The film hits theaters on January 8th.
The soundtrack contains original music by Ryuichi Sakamoto (Black Rain, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and The Last Emperor) and Alva Noto (also known as Carsten Nicolai) with additional music by Bryce Dessner (Grammy award nominated frontman of The National Bryce Dessner) and has already been nominated for a 2016 Golden Globe award. Iñárritu often looks to push the boundaries of standard soundtracks, using the underlying score as a narrative device, turning it into a character that lives and breathes throughout the film; in certain places it replaces character dialog). Iñárritu enlisted fellow Oscar winner Sakamoto and his team to create the arrangements that bridge the gap between digital and orchestral scoring, blending “minimal string sections with crashing waves of synths and digital percussion” to heighten the tension and emotion of the film.
The soundtrack, available digitally now and on vinyl and CD on January 15th, is expected to pick up Oscar and Bafta nominations in addition to the Golden Globe nod.
