Recently, Disney announced that they have a series for Disney Junior in preparation that tells the story of Disney’s first princess inspired by Latin cultures. The show, Elena of Avalor, will air later this year after Elena makes her first appearance on the very popular kid’s show Sofia the First. This animated series tells the story of Elena, a sixteen year old ascendant to the throne of the fairytale kingdom of Avalor.

She is joined by many veteran television actors including Jenny Ortega (Jane the Virgin), Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live, Archer), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Emiliano Diaz (George Lopez), Christian Lanz (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Jillian Rose Reed (Awkward), Joseph Haro (Awkward), Jorge Diaz (Days of our Lives), Keith Ferguson (Sofia the First), and Joe Nunez (Bridesmaids).

Created by Sofia the First‘s Craig Gerber, with Silvia Cardenas Olivias (Moesha, The Brothers Garcia) as the story editor, and Elliot M. Bouer (The Little Engine that Could) as the supervising editor. They are joined by two cultural advisors, Diane Rodriguez (Associate Artistic Director of Centre Theater Group, co-founder of theater ensemble Latins Annonymous, and appointed by President Obama to be a member of the National Council on the Arts) and Marcella Davison Aviles (Managing Director and Executive Producer, El Camino Project).
