For actress Juliet Landau, vampires are more than just a cult phenomenon; they’re an intriguing media presence that deserves to be studied and explored from every angle. For that reason, Landau, who played the enthralling vampire Drusilla on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and her husband Deverill Weekes have made it their goal to investigate and showcase the vampire phenomenon in a two-part documentary series: “A Place Among the Dead” and “A Place Among the Undead”. At this year’s Comic Con International in San Diego, Landau explained that the first part of the documentary series, “A Place Among the Dead,” would focus on the true crime reality of when people take the vampire fantasy too far while the second part, “A Place Among the Undead,” would delve into the mythology of vampires and scrutinize their presence in pop culture, including television, movies, books and comics. It’s a sprawling venture, to be sure, but one that has the potential to be one of the most invigorating documentaries that our culture has ever seen.
In addition, Landau has already recruited some of the biggest names in vampire pop culture to assist her in making these impressive documentaries. Tim Burton, Joss Whedon, Gary Oldman, Anne Rice, Willem Dafoe, Robert Patrik, Charlaine Harris, Nathan Fillion, Christian Kane, Kristin Bauer van Straten, and a number of others have signed on to participate in the series, and every day, it continues to grow.
However, in order to make this series a reality, she needs help from vampire fans across the world. On October 27, Landau launched an Indiegogo campaign for the project that includes several amazing perks for those who back the project. She truly wants to make this project attuned to and inclusive of vampire fans everywhere! Below, you will find a five-minute trailer explaining more about the project and if you like what you see, click on this link to the campaign and prepare to enter “A Place Among the Undead”!
