ABC Family to premiere “Shadowhunters” in January

ABC Family’s new show “Shadowhunters”is set to premiere on Tuesday, January 12 at 9:00 pm EST/PST.  This series is based on the best-selling book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and follows one young woman’s journey as she learns the truth about her past.

Clary Fray finds out on her birthday that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters; human-angel hybrids who hunt down and kill demons.  When Clary’s mother is kidnapped, she finds herself thrown into the world of demon hunting where she must rely on the goodwill of her new friends, Jace, Isabelle and Alecto, to help her survive in her new and dark world.  Clary is joined by her best friend Simon as she learns to live among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves while she searches for clues to her mother’s whereabouts.

“Shadowhunters” is produced by Constantin Film and executive-produced by Ed Decter and McG.  McG will also direct the first episode.  The series stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Alberto Rosende as Simon, Emeraude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood, Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway and Harry Shum, Jr. as Magnus Bane.

In addition, fans of the fantasy series will be able to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the making of the television show in “Beyond the Shadows:  The Making of Shadowhunters”.  This show will include cast members talking about how they got their roles and how they trained to be able to fight on-screen.  In addition, for viewers new to The Mortal Instruments and to the Shadow World, the cast will also explain what “Shadowhunters” is all about.  “Beyond the Shadows:  The Making of Shadowhunters” will include interviews with Showrunner Ed Decter and Executive Producer McG.  “Beyond the Shadows:  The Making of Shadowhunters” is produced by Big Door, Inc. and Jen X Productions, Inc. with Jennifer Erwin as executive producer and Max Yoffe as co-executive producers.
