Arrow Spotlight: Oliver and Lance

Spoiler alert:  This article contains information from the episode titled “Beyond Redemption” which may not have aired yet in some regions.

For anyone who believes that Arrow is just a show in which costumed superheroes fight bad guys, they need to watch tonight’s episode entitled “Beyond Redemption”. The human emotion displayed by Oliver Queen and Quentin Lance during their powerful scenes will change those opinions.

Quentin Lance is a man with principles and strong family values. He protects Starling City as a Police Detective. But first and foremost, he’s a father who loves his daughters Sara and Laurel more than anything. He always viewed Oliver Queen as a spoiled, rich playboy. His resentment of Oliver deepened when his daughter Sara was believed to have died in an accident involving the Queen family’s yacht.

But he and Oliver have more in common than Lance wants to admit. Yes, Oliver was a spoiled, rich playboy, but after the death of his father and trying to survive five years on an island, Oliver grew up and matured. His focus became eerily similar to Lance’s. They both strive to protect their family and their city.

Oliver admitted in “Beyond Redemption” that he always wanted Lance’s acceptance and respect. His methods as the Arrow (now Green Arrow) invoked Quentin’s disdain. To Quentin Lance, Oliver Queen is and will always be a killer and the man who tore his family apart.

Can Oliver and Lance work together to solve the problem of a feral Sara’s return from the dead?  Will this bring a new understanding and respect between these men? Tune into the CW on Wednesdays at 8/7c pm to find out.
