Where Are They Now? The “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” Edition

Growing up, there were many shows with which I was obsessed, but probably none as much as Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Every week, I would count the minutes until the next episode aired, anxious to find out what was happening with my favorite characters. The show, which premiered in 1996 and ran for seven seasons, followed the exploits of Sabrina Spellman, a young witch learning how to use her powers, her aunts, Hilda and Zelda, her mischievous cat, Salem, and a multitude of other unforgettable characters. Lighthearted and full of adventure, the show served as both entertainment and escape, allowing me to forget my troubles and step into another realm. Even though the show has been over for twelve years now, I still think about it. What became of the actors and actresses who portrayed these memorable characters? What have they been up to since the show ended? Fortunately for you, I took the time to find out!

Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina Spellman)

The former star of Sabrina the Teenage Witch has had a very successful TV career post-Sabrina. In addition to appearing in a multitude of TV movies, including Holiday in Handcuffs and My Fake Fiancée, she’s also guest starred on several shows, such as Robot Chicken, Law and Order: SVU and The Mysteries of Laura. She also had a starring role on ABC Family’s Melissa and Joey as Melissa Burke, which ran for four seasons until it was recently cancelled, and fans can anticipate seeing her in God’s Not Dead 2 as Grace Wesley, which is currently filming. In addition to having a successful career, she’s also been married to Mark Wilkerson, front man/guitarist for the band Course of Nature, for twelve years, with whom she has three children.

Caroline Rhea (Hilda Spellman)

The actress who played the more quirky of Sabrina’s two aunts, Hilda, has also had a very successful career post-Sabrina. The Canadian stand-up comedian, actress, model and producer hosted NBC’s The Biggest Loser until 2003 and was the hostess of her own syndicated talk show, The Caroline Rhea Show. In addition, she was a regular star on the show, Hollywood Squares, has guest-starred on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, as well as Manhattan Love Story and 2 Broke Girls, and was the voice of Linda Flynn-Fletcher on Phineas and Ferb. Rhea is currently the host of the Canadian television series Cake Walk: Wedding Cake Edition on Slice, and is frequently a guest on the revival of Match Game on Canada’s The Comedy Network. Rhea and former partner, Costaki Economopoulos, have one daughter.

Beth Broderick (Zelda Spellman)

Like the two aforementioned actresses, Beth Broderick’s career in television has also been a lucrative one. Since Sabrina, she has guest-starred on several television shows, including CSI: Miami, Supernatural, The Closer, Castle, Melissa and Joey and many more. She also had a minor yet recurring role on ABC’s Lost as Kate Austen’s mother, Diane. She recently starred as waitress Rose Twitchell on the television series Under the Dome. Additionally, she has also appeared in several theater productions, including Carnal Knowledge, The Master of Discipline, which she also co-produced, The Mousetrap and Lion in Winter. She is currently married to Scott Paetty and lives in Austin, Texas.

Nick Bakay (Salem Saberhagen)

The actor/producer/writer who voiced the show’s lovable yet dastardly cat went on to claim recurring roles on a variety of shows, including King of Queens and Til Death. On both shows, he also served as a producer and a writer. He also co-wrote Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and Zookeeper, in which he also played the role of Franky, with Kevin James. In 2006, Bakay created, wrote and voiced an Emmy-nominated cartoon for Comedy Central called The Adventures of Baxter and McGuire. In addition to his successful career, Bakay is also happily married with two children and owns a dog and two cats, one of whom, interestingly enough, is named Salem!

Nate Richert (Harvey Kinkel)

Who could ever forget Harvey Kinkel, Sabrina’s first and one true love? Prior to the end of Sabrina, Richert guest starred on several shows, including Touched by an Angel. Since then, however, his acting career has fizzled out. He starred in both Game Box 1.0 and The Sure Hand of God in 2004, and the short film H-e-n-r-y in 2006, but since then, nothng.

David Lascher (Josh)

And then we have Sabrina’s other significant love interest: the dreamy Josh, portrayed by David Lascher, who was the manager of the coffeehouse that she falls for in her college years. David Lascher’s career dwindled and then picked up pace, with him starring in a couple TV movies, such as Mystery Woman: Redemption, in which he played Tyler Dell, and Always and Forever, in which he played Gabe Sanchez. In addition, he also claimed a recurring role on Melissa and Joey as Charlie before the show was cancelled. Fans can anticipate seeing him in Andrew Grossman’s The Boat Builder alongside Christopher Lloyd and Jane Kacsmarek.

Martin Mull (Mr. Kraft)

Martin Mull may have only been on Sabrina for three years, but he sure left an impression! Since exiting the show in 2000, he has had several recurring roles, including Mr. Munn on The Ellen Show, Lenord on Life with Bonnie, Father Donovan on American Dad, Mr. White on Til Death, Russell on Two and a Half Men, Gene Parmesan on Arrested Development and Crawford Whittemore on Dads. He currently has a recurring role on NBC’s Community as George Perry.

Lindsey Sloane (Valerie Birkhead)

Although Lindsey Sloane left the show in 1999, she is still a memorable part of it. The actress who played Sabrina’s best friend, Valerie, has gone on to claim many starring roles, most notably that of Big Red in the movie Bring It On. In addition, she’s also had recurring television roles on Grosse Point, The Stones and Playing House. She can currently be seen on The Odd Couple as the character Emily.

Jenna Leigh Green (Libby Chessler)

Like Lindsey, Jenna left the show in 1999, but that doesn’t mean that viewers will soon forget her character Libby Chesler, the snobby head cheerleader at Westbridge High who went out of her way to make Sabrina’s life miserable. Since leaving the show, Jenna has claimed guest roles on several other television shows, including ER, Cold Case, Ghost Whisperer, Castle and Bones. She can soon be seen in the movie Hard Sell as Priscilla.

Soleil Moon Frye (Roxie King)

Soleil Moon Frye was a big part of the show in the college years, starring as one of Sabrina’s roommates, Roxie King. Since the show ended, she has done a lot of voice acting on cartoons such as The Proud Family (Zoey) and Planet Sheen (Aseefa). She has also provided the voice for the Bratz character Jade on several occasions. In addition to being an actress, Frye also hosts a blog and a web series that focuses on child-rearing and women’s issues. She published her first book, Happy Chaos: From Punky to Parenting and My Perfect Imperfect Adventures In Between, and is currently the host of Home Made Simple on the Oprah Winfrey Network. She has been married to producer Jason Goldberg since 1998 and they have three children together.

Elisa Donovan (Morgan Cavanaugh)

Elisa Donovan was also a big part of the show in the college years, starring as another of Sabrina’s roommates, Morgan Cavanaugh. Since the show ended, she has guest starred in several other television shows, such as Judging Amy, NCIS, Sonny with a Chance, Whole Day Down and Melissa and Joey. She also starred as Leslie in the television series The Lake, and as Gayle Evans in In Gayle We Trust. In addition, she just finished filming the movie Cardinal X, in which she plays the character Mary.

Trevor Lissauer (Miles Goodman)

Last but not least, we have Sabrina’s nerdy roommate Miles, played by Trevor Lissauer. Since leaving the show in 2002, Lissauer has been in several movies and shows. He has been a guest star on the television series Reno 911, had starring roles in the movies Eden’s Curve (Joe) and Lionhead (Frank Harrison), and provided the voice for Jack the Jack Russell in the TV movie Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever. He is currently in the process of filming the movie La La Land alongside Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, J.K. Simmons and John Legend.
