Sesame Workshop and HBO Announce Five-Year Partnership
HBO and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, have announced a partnership that will make the next five seasons of Sesame Street available on HBO, HBO GO, HBO on Demand and HBO Now.
As a part of the deal, Sesame will also able to produce almost twice as much new content and for the first time ever, the show will be available free of charge to PBS and its member stations.
In addition, Sesame Workshop will produce a Sesame Street Muppets spinoff series as well as develop a new educational series for children.
The new episodes will begin airing as early as late fall 2015.
All series will be made available on PBS Kids and on its member stations.
HBO also licensed The Electric Company (rebooted in 2009) along with 50 past episodes of Pinky Dinky Doo.
