Interview with Stars In Stereo
Stars In Stereo is a California rock band with singer Bec Hollcraft at the helm. Also in the band is Jordan McGraw on lead guitar, Justin Siegel on bass, Frogs McCormick on rhythm guitar, and Drew Langan on drums. I got to interview Bec Hollcraft from SinS and we talked band names, how they met, and new tours. Check it out below!
For those who don’t know of you yet, tell me a little about each of you.
Bec Hollcraft: We are a group of five extremely passionate people with a common goal to create music that inspires. We are a family who is always striving for better. We live to entertain.

How did you come together to form Stars in Stereo?
BC: We are from different parts of the country, but all met in Los Angeles through mutual friends, with the exception of Justin and Frogs who met in college. We are friends who wanted to make the music we love together.

What made you want to pursue music?
BC: For me personally, there was never a time when I didn’t want to be a singer. My parents said that I was singing before I could talk. I was always terribly shy but music was the one thing I felt like I could do and be good at. I think we are all in this band because music means everything to us and always has.

Where did the band name come from?
BC: We were throwing around a few different ideas about what makes us “us”, and realized that if you look at a map at all the different states we are from, it kind of connects to form a star.

Where does the inspiration for your songs come from?
BC: The inspiration came from listening to our favorite bands and also the need to share a message. We are inspired by the crazy life around us, our personal struggles, and lost love.

Tell me about your writing process, do you work on lyrics or melody first or all together?
BC: A lot of the time it’s a melody first, but we all contribute our ideas. Someone will come up with a verse or chorus idea, and we will build off that if it’s inspiring us.

What do you think sets you apart from other artists in your genre?
BC: Probably that we are always trying to come up with new and creative ideas to make our live show better with each tour, as well as different kinds of content we can share, and our concepts for our music videos. We are in charge of what we release and how we release it. We are telling a story with each music video based on a main concept that we came up with. We try to make everything we do unique to us.

What are you most looking forward to with your summer tour?
BC: Each new tour is great because we are gaining new fans and also seeing familiar faces coming back to shows. We are watching the growth and it’s a blast. This acoustic tour coming up with Anberlin is something we’ve never done before, and we are excited try something new and make it a special experience for the audience.

What is your favorite song to perform?
BC: Probably “Every Last Thing” because of the dynamics of the song. It makes for a fun live performance.
