Interview with TJ Boyce

TJ Boyce is an up and coming R&B artist, producer, and songwriter from Houston, Texas. He just released his new single “No Panties” and is hoping to release the full album later this year. The single has received many great reviews and is currently celebrating its second week at the top of London’s “The Independent Chart Show”. When did you start playing music?

“I started singing and probably about three years old. I started in church, you know. My mom would put me in front of the audience and she would have me sing the songs so that’s where it all started for me.”

Ideally, in five years where do you see yourself?

“In five years I see myself being a premier artist in urban music. Well not just urban music, just a power player in the music industry. I really see myself doing big things in five years.”

When you aren’t playing music what do you like to do for fun?

“I’m a big movie buff. And I’m really into fitness, I work out almost every day and you know I run a few businesses in Houston. And the kids keep me pretty busy, so that’s pretty much it. Although, I do like to travel. You know, I just hang out, live life.”

What is the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome?

“Thus far, it’s just been learning to be patient. The music industry is a grind and a lot of times you can feel like you aren’t shining the way you should be and I’ve learned that you have to pay your dues and be patient and just go hard. You go hard and good things will happen for you.”

Do you have any exciting plans for this year?

“I’m looking forward to celebrating ‘No Panties’ being the number one record in the country. I’m looking forward to shooting my first music video. I’m looking forward to releasing my first album. I think it’s going to be a breath of fresh air for those people who are looking for really hot music. And I’m looking forward to being the best that I can be.”

How did your fans react to your new single?

“I’ve been getting some great response all over the country. From DJ’s, from fans, it’s been really great. Everyone seems to really like the song. I’ve talked to DJ’s that don’t know me from Adam and they;ve all had really good things to say about it. I’ve never had an experience like this… You know if you suck they won’t have anything to say at all. I think we’re really working with something here, I think it’s a record that’s gonna go big.”

Describe you and your music in a couple of words.

“I’d have to say fly, hip, beastly, amazing, and very personal.”

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

“My biggest inspiration thus far is my parents. You know, they sparked the interest in music. A long time ago I realized that I was special and my mother made me believe that I could do and be what I wanted. I’m crazy enough to believe that I can do anything I set my mind to and I owe that to my parents.”

What do you consider you greatest success?

“Thus far I would say being a father. Being a good father.”
