Jennifer Hudson Wows As Aretha Franklin In First Trailer For ‘Respect’

Jennifer Hudson is back on the big screen for the first time since 2006 and she is out to earn everyone’s respect.

The first trailer for Respect, the highly anticipated film starring Hudson as Aretha Franklin, was released during Sunday’s BET Awards and it has everybody talking. The film follows Franklin’s life from singing in her father’s church to becoming one of the biggest music stars in the world.

The film also stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Marc Maron, Tate Donovan, Tituss Burgess, and Dakota Turner. It was originally set to be released in August but COVID-19 has pushed it back to a limited Christmas Day release in the U.S. with a full wide release on January 15, 2021.

Franklin died of pancreatic cancer in 2018 and was a part of the film’s production until her death. Nicknamed the “Queen of Soul”, Franklin won 18 Grammy Awards and was nominated 44 times.
