Exclusive: Remy Garrison “D.O.N.E.” Music Video Premiere + Interview

Remy Garrison was born to be a singer. Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, she had a natural gift for music from an early age that stunned everyone around her. Although she’s relatively new to music city, she has quickly dazzled industry veterans with her intense commitment to craft and process. She just released her new single “D.O.N.E” and now she is premiering the music video for that single exclusively on Talk Nerdy With Us.
In addition to premiering this video on our site, I got the chance to talk to Remy about her songwriting process for this song, what it was like shooting the video and more. Keep reading to see what she had to say!
Let’s talk about your new single, “D.O.N.E.”. What’s this song about?
My new single D.O.N.E. is about being done with a boy who has messed with your heart and feelings for too long. You deserve better than someone who doesn’t see your worth.
Something I’ve always been curious with songwriting is how topics come to mind. Did you know what you wanted to write about going into the song session that birthed “D.O.N.E.” or did it just come about organically once you were in the session?
The topic of “D.O.N.E.” was something I already planned on writing because it was something I was going through at the time, but when I went into the writing session, more perspectives and opinions came into the mix and it became more than a typical diss song. It became an anthem for being done and knowing you can hold your own and be empowered being single.
Was there any major changes to “D.O.N.E.” that happened once you got into the recording studio, whether it be in the lyrics or something sonically?
Not many changes were made to the original song. We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted it to be and sound like. Yes we played around but we always kept going back to the original track.
You also shot a music video for this song, which is so much fun! What was that process like?
The process of the “D.O.N.E.” video is something I will never forget. I was surrounded by such talented, funny, and kind people. They made being on set feel like home and I was comfortable to be myself. I loved all the looks for the video from the hair and makeup to the outfits. It was colorful and light hearted the entire time.
I absolutely love all of the colors used in this video! Was that always part of your vision for this video?
Yes. I wanted it to be fun, colorful, and spunky. I found a great airbrush artist to do my shoes and shirt in the video and we kind of built off that. The experience couldn’t have been more perfect.
I know you just released “D.O.N.E.”, but do you have any more plans to release another single or an EP/LP anytime soon?
I plan on releasing another single called “Love Laugh Live” this summer. I don’t know when we will shoot a video for it because of quarantine but as soon as it’s safe, I want to make a video!
