‘Big Brother’ renewed for Season 22 at CBS

CBS has renewed summer hit Big Brother for a 22nd season. The news of a renewal is not surprising as Big Brother has been a summer staple for the network since it began in 2000.
The current 21st season is averaging 5.3 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. That is down 20 percent in total viewers and 25 percent in the demo from the 20th season last summer. Despite the ratings decline, the show is still the top rated summer show for CBS and has seen a double-digit increase in viewers on CBS digital platforms.
Julie Chen Moonves will also return as host for the new season after signing a new deal with the network. While terms of the deal were not announced, Deadline is reporting that “multiple seasons are foreseen” for Chen Moonves as the host of the long-running reality show.
Deadline also reported that CBS has no plans to bring back Celebrity Big Brother for a third season and Chen Moonves’ new deal does not include the one month celebrity edition.
