HBO Max to reboot ‘Gossip Girl’ as ‘extension’ of original series
Gossip Girl is back! The new streaming service HBO Max will reboot the show with a 10-episode run and original showrunner Joshua Safran attached. Series creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will also serve as executive producers on the series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the logline for the new series reads, “Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.”
The original Gossip Girl aired 121 episodes on The CW from 2007-2012. There is no word at this time as to whether or not original cast members Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick will be making any special guest appearances in the reboot.
