WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from the conclusion of the Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds Part 3. Do not read ahead if you have not seen the episode or read ahead at your own risk.

This year’s Arrowverse crossover event came to an end on Supergirl Tuesday night but not without one final showdown with Dr. Deegan and a heartfelt moment between Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Barry (Grant Gustin).

The finale began with the powerless Trigger Twins, Oliver and Barry, running from the police but getting caught by evil Superman, who we now know is Deegan. Evil Superman argues that he is a hero in this world, which is what the city needs. To get away from him, Oliver takes a gun and shoots a crane which swings toward a group of kids. Barry then tells Superman to choose between capturing the two of them or saving the children.

Upon the Trigger Twins escape, evil Superman goes back to his lair aka STAR Labs with his henchmen, Diggle (David Ramsey) and Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker), both assuring him he will still catch Barry and Oliver.

Side note: It was nice to see Panabaker get a full episode as her Killer Frost alter ego. We will likely see much more from Frost on The Flash in the second half of the season but it was still nice to see Danielle really embrace the role for a longer period of time.

Anyway, Oliver and Barry are seeking Cisco’s help but instead find themselves in the cosmos meeting with The Monitor. He congratulates them on outwitting Superman but says they will need to be far more clever to stop what is coming.

Are we getting some foreshadowing here? You bet we are! More on that later.

Oliver and Barry find themselves in some rat-hole bar and Gary the bartender (yes, that Gary from Legends of Tomorrow) is huge fans of the fugitives, calling them legends. And there it is, a teeny-tiny crossover moment with the other Arrowverse show.

They then find Cisco, who is now a crime boss thanks to the re-written reality. At first, Cisco is not interested in what they have to say until Barry mentions Cisco’s brother and how to stop evil Superman. After seventeen tries, Cisco finally breaches them all to Earth-38 Arctic, where the good Superman and Lois Lane are summoned back to Earth 1 for the big showdown.

Kara (Melissa Benoist) is in The Monitor’s holding cell in STAR Labs and is trying to convince Alt-Alex they are sisters on another Earth. Eventually, they bond over a story Kara shares from their past where Alex spent time in Japan as a kid and taught Kara a Japanese phrase. On this Earth, the story is the same with only Alex’s age being different. That’s enough to convince Alex to let Kara out but evil Superman, Diggle, and Killer Frost are there to stop them.

That’s when Barry, Oliver, and the real Superman breach and a fight ensues. Clark aka real Superman gets the Book of Destiny and its energy gives Kara, Barry, and Oliver their suits and powers back. Evil Superman threatens to kill Barry unless Clark stops rewriting reality. Oliver threatens to use a Kryptonite arrow on evil Supes but Barry tells him to not give into the darkness as it might be the key to ending things.

Oliver stands down but evil Superman escapes with the book and re-writes reality yet again. Barry suggests he and Kara race around the world to slow time but Clark tells them they would die – he saw it in the book. Barry and Kara ignore the warning and go anyway. Oliver has a plan and we all know where he’s going, right?

He goes to The Monitor and tells him Kara and Barry are the hope and inspiration the city needs, while Oliver is consumed by darkness. Olly says The Monitor doesn’t need darkness. The Monitor asks what Oliver will give him if he rewrites reality?

Oliver returns to Earth with a glowing, blue arrow and shoots it into the book just before Barry and Kara burn up (literally) from using all their speed. Dr. Deegan returns to his self but is now some sort of mummy-zombie and The Book of Destiny is now destroyed.

After returning to Earth 38, Superman reveals he and Lois are expecting a baby. This means they’re off to Argo so she’ll have a safer pregnancy and he says the world doesn’t need Superman as long is it has Supergirl. At the Fortress of Solitude, Clark proposes and we’ve got an engagement!

Back on Earth-1, Barry and Oliver are sharing a drink and reflecting. The acting from Gustin and Amell really demonstrated how both characters learned some valuable lessons they’ll likely take back to their respective shows. Barry knows Oliver made a deal with The Monitor and our suspicions are confirmed when Olly says something about appreciating what you have, however long you might have it.

Uh, what exactly did Oliver agree to?

Lastly, Oliver gets a call from Batwoman (Ruby Rose) who informs him Deegan made a friend in Arkham. Cut to the prison and we see a masked man saying: “Everything is as it should be. The stage is set. Worlds will live. Worlds will die. And the universe will never be the same.”
