Women Crush Wednesday (WCW): Danai Gurira
This week’s honor of #WCW goes to the amazingly brilliant Danai Gurira!
Danai may not have the longest IMDb page, but her most recent roles have been incredible. Before that she appeared on an episode of Law & Order here and Lie to Me there. She even had a guest spot on Treme, a short lived show about life after Hurricane Katrina. Last year, she was seen as Afeni Shakur, mother of Tupac, in All Eyez On Me. But I know her best as bad ass Michonne on The Walking Dead. I mean, give a women dreads and a sword and you’ve got me hooked!
Danai also shines tremendously in the most recent Marvel Studios installment, Black Panther. She plays Okoye, the general and leader of the Dora Milaje, an elite group of all female warriors and Wakanda’s special forces. Danai’s performance in Black Panther is incredible and I can’t wait to see more of her in Avengers: Infinity War!
As if that isn’t enough, Danai is also the award winning writer of the Broadway play Eclipsed. Eclipsed was the first ever Broadway play to have an all black and female creative cast and team. It was nominated for 6 Tony Awards in 2016 and won the Tony for Best Costumes!
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Danai and not only is she way more beautiful than you could ever imagine, she is one of the kindest people I have ever met.
Go see Danai in Black Panther, in theaters everywhere, or watch her Sunday nights on AMC in The Walking Dead.
