Jennifer Lopez to Star in NBC’s Bye Bye Birdie Live!

Even though Hairspray Live! is still a little over a month away, NBC has already announced its next project. This morning, NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt revealed that the next live musical NBC would produce will be Bye Bye Birdie Live!

For those who aren’t familiar, Bye Bye Birdie follows the story of a rock-and-roll singer going off to the army and its effect on a group of teenagers in a small town in Ohio. It originally premiered on Broadway in the 60’s and is inspired by when Elvis Presley received his Army draft notice back in 1957.

NBC has recruited Jennifer Lopez to star as Rosie in the live performance in December 2017. Even though she is primarily a recording artist, she has starred in the regional productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Oklahoma in the past. Since the cast is mostly young teenagers, it will be interesting to see who NBC will cast into the other leading roles.

Who do you think would be an excellent choice for the musical? Leave a comment below or feel free to tweet us your predictions at @TalkNerdyWithUs!
