Once Upon a Captain Swan: A Ship That Sails Its Self

You know when you are introduced to a relationship on a show and you become really obsessed? Like putting up posters, tweeting constantly about them, casually throwing them into an everyday conversation in which nobody knows what you’re talking about, and so on. Well, that’s Emma and Hook (Captain Swan) for me. I always thought of myself as a normal and chill fangirl, then I started watching Once Upon a Time. While the show is adorned with various ships, Emma and Hook’s relationship hooked me the most. No pun intended. They’ve made me laugh, cry, and scream. Mostly cry. Here are my reasons as to why I think they’re the best ship on TV:

 

It wasn’t love at first sight (at least for Emma):

My favorite thing about their relationship was that it wasn’t instalove. There was always an attraction between them even though Emma didn’t want to admit it. Maybe it was the constant flirting, innuendos or lingering looks Hook gave her that wore her down. But eventually, like Hook promised her in Neverland, he did win her heart. I, for one, was super excited about that.

 

The way Hook talks to Emma:

SWOON. For a pirate, Hook sure does have a way with words. He always makes Emma feel important and special. He never talks down to her and he always believes in her. (Let’s leave what he said to her as the Dark One out of this. He was cursed.)

They bring out the good in one another:

Neither of them are perfect. Far from it, but it doesn’t bother either of them that they’ve had a rough past. Emma was a thief and a runaway. Hook was a pirate who stole, murdered and cheated. Despite that, they choose to see the good in each other.

Love so strong Zeus ships them: 

Zeus is such a fanboy. He promised Hook in the Underworld that for his help in defeating Hades, he would send him to where he belonged. And guess where it was Zeus deemed Hook belonged? With Emma. In the land of the living. Zeus shipped them so hard, he resurrected Hook from the dead to be with Emma. I don’t think I ever cried so much during a TV show. Also this scene was so cute.

 

How they would go to Hell and back for each other:

Emma and Hook would go to Hell and back for each other. Emma actually did go to Hell for Hook. Nothing can stop them from finding each other, and if that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

 

Cute AF:

This speaks for itself. Every time they’re on my screen, I just can’t get over how cute they are. I mean look at them.

 

The way they love each other so truly:

Ah, ‘Firebird’, the episode that literally shattered every Captain Swan shipper’s heart in more than one way. The characters may have been in Hell, but it felt like the fans were in our own personal Hell… Ignoring the heartbreak from this episode, viewers got the confirmation of Emma and Hook being true love. Which, as we know, is the most powerful magic of all. Nothing beats true love.

 

It’s never easy but they still weather through the storm:

Even when Emma was the Dark One and being all evil, Hook never gave up on her. He chose to fight for her and their happy ending. (By the way, we’re still waiting for them to move-in together like they mentioned in 5A). Then when Emma turned Hook into the Dark One as well, Emma promised she would help him fight the darkness. Together they’ve combatted darkness, death, and Hades. What other TV couple do you know who’s gone through this much? The answer is nobody.

 

Bonus reason: there’s a ship within the ship:

“Behold, the Rolly Joger!” Don’t drink and captain. Seriously though, this ship actually has a ship.
