Exclusive Interview with Brains’ Jean Perez

Brains season 2 is about to debut its second season in September, and with it, fans will be introduced to new characters. One of these characters is Ben Roscoe, portrayed by actor Jean Perez. While not much is known about Perez’s character, the secret has been spilled that Ben will be a new love interest in the season, possibly replacing Alison’s long-time crush Damian Phillips.
Perez recently chatted with Talk Nerdy With Us about his Ben Roscoe and what this new character means for any relationships that were already forming in Brains.
You play Ben in season 2, what can you tell us about that character?
Ben is a very interesting and chill guy, and he’s also very tough which makes him a more rounded off person during the apocalypse because you know he won’t lose his cool and will always know how to manage the situation.
Ben is a new love interest. Will this cause any tension or confusion between characters and relationships that may have already been forming?
Ben is just one of those people who’s very easy to get along with and Alison might get distracted by this cool new guy that her friends start to think is becoming more of a priority, which upsets those who care more about her. Especially Dom; Ben and him have a few things they don’t see eye to eye on.
Do you think that there is still time for love and romance in a zombie apocalypse, or is everything strictly focused on surviving from day to day?
You can never really know if you have time for anything in the apocalypse, but if you manage to survive and think you’re capable of handling yourself, then why not? It can’t be all sadness and worrying about if you’re gonna get eaten by a zombie. Live a little, you know!
You came in during season 2. Was that nerve-wracking at all considering that the rest of the cast already had a season under their belt?
It wasn’t as nerve wrecking as I thought it would be, but I did find myself a bit star struck when I went in for the table read and saw everyone come in one by one, thinking to myself, “Holy Crap! That’s Damian and that’s Greta!” Definitely had a few minutes of astonishment but after we kicked off the reading everything sailed smoothly. Big thanks to Bri and the rest of the cast for making me feel at home!
What’s it like behind the scenes?
I had a blast, I think it’s one of the best casts I’ve had the pleasure to work with on film. Every second was filled with laughing and joking around- oh man, so many jokes. I really wish I could do it again, it went from filming a serious scene to dying of complete laughter seconds after cut was yelled. It really can’t get better than that. I can only imagine the bloopers we must have.
What would you miss most if there were a zombie apocalypse?
I think the thing I’d miss most in the zombie apocalypse would be the privilege of getting to actually relax, sit down for a while without the need of always watching your back and being on alert… Also chocolate chip cookies.
Do you think that you’d be able to survive a zombie apocalypse?
Personally, I believe so because I’ve been preparing myself for a while now. I have my escape plan A and B, you never know. I’m a big zombie fan and have imagined a few scenarios that could happen. Gotta be ready for anything!
Our website is called Talk Nerdy With Us. Do you consider yourself to be a nerd?
I consider myself a nerd; I think I’ve always been one and always will. Anything from films to comics and superheroes, zombies of course, to video games. I’m proud to be one and would love to work on more projects heavily focused on some of these things. Gotta represent!!
