Exclusive Interview with Brains’ Masha Danilenko
Masha Danilenko portrays Greta Hamilton, the antagonist, in the web series Brains. In season 1, Greta is anything but kind to vlogger Alison, and her mind seems to be more focused on protecting the school from zombies than forming any kind of relationship that verges on friendship. Season 2 is set to debut in September, and Danilenko is back to reprise her role as the series antagonist.
What can you tell us about Greta in season 2?
Greta really grows as a character. Her softer side comes out as she and Alison work through (or fight through) their relationship. She even has a moment with Carl! It was fun to see her grow.
Greta and Allison have a very tense and strained relationship, but it has been revealed that they were once friends. Will we learn more about their past and what caused them to distance themselves from one another?
Yes, definitely. One scene sticks out to me about that, but you’ll have to see it to find out. I’ll give you a hint: they talk about their lives before the apocalypse.
Greta doesn’t trust Carl. Is it just because he’s a zombie, or is there something deeper? Is she possibly troubled by things she’s seen and done?
I think it’s a little bit of both- that he’s a zombie and that Greta has been traumatized by all the death around her; she doesn’t want to see anyone else get hurt. I think she thinks Carl is definitely capable of that.
How do you think Greta will react when/if she discovers that Damian is a zombie?
I do not think she will be happy about it! But it might soften her to the idea that SOME zombies can be trusted (like Carl).
Greta is on the frontlines fighting and killing zombies. Would that be you in a zombie apocalypse?
Definitely not. I would be the first to drive out of there and into the woods to find the most isolated place in the planet. I wouldn’t get near a zombie with a 50-foot pole.
What would you miss most if there were a zombie apocalypse?
I think the internet or the news. I would miss being informed about what’s going on and reading dumb Buzzfeed lists like ’30 Dogs Exactly Like You!’ . Also, I’d really miss The Bachelor/ Bachelorette.
If you could only have one item with you in the zombie apocalypse, what would it be?
A flame thrower.
