USA Network has given Mr. Robot several upgrades for its second season.
The Golden-Globe winning drama series has been extended from 10 episodes to 12 episodes with creator and executive producer Sam Esmail directing every episode this season.
Mr. Robot‘s second season kicks off on Wednesday, July 13 at 10/9c with two back-to-back episodes, limited commercial breaks and a newly announced live after show. Hacking Robot, which will air immediately after the two-episode season premiere, will provide a behind the scenes look at the breakout drama.
“The first season of Mr. Robot was everything we hoped for – and then some,” said Chris McCumber, President Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “So it’s no surprise that Sam and team have raised the bar even more in season two. From the first moments of the new season, it’ll be clear that audiences are in for something incredibly special and wholly unexpected.”
The USA Network thriller stars SAG® and Golden Globe Award Nominee Rami Malek as Elliot Alderson, a cyber-security engineer who becomes involved in the underground hacker group fsociety, after being recruited by their mysterious leader (Christian Slater). The two premiere episodes, titled “eps2.0_unm4sk-pt1.tc” and “eps2.0_unm4sk-pt2.tc”, will pick up 30 days after the now infamous fsociety 5/9 hack on multi-national company Evil Corp. Season 2 will explore the consequences of that attack as well as the illusion of control.
Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Martin Wallström, Ben Rappaport, Tom Riis Farrell are all expected to reprise their roles from the first season with Michael Cristofer and Stephanie Corneliussen joining the cast full-time.
New additions for the second season include Aasif Mandvi, Craig Robinson and Grace Gummer as a young FBI field agent investigating the Evil Corp Hack. Fear The Walking Dead alum Sandrine Holt, Michael Maize, Dorothi Fox and Luke Robertson have also secured guest roles.
