The 70th Tony Awards Winners List

And the winner is… Hamilton!
If you were watching the 70th annual Tony Awards last night, you know that Hamilton pretty much dominated. The hit musical won 11 of its record-breaking 16 nominations, including the biggest award of the night, Best Musical. The cast performed twice with a mash-up of “History Has Its Eyes On You” and “Yorktown,” as well as “The Schuyler Sisters” to close the show. Even though their performances were good, they fell short of the standing ovation that Cynthia Erivo and the cast of The Color Purple received after the performance of “I’m Here.”
This year’s Tony’s also made history when for the first time in its 70 year history, the four musical acting awards went to people of color. This is incredibly groundbreaking especially after the #OscarsSoWhite controversy that shook the nation earlier this year. The theater community has shown time and time again that it’s one of the most inclusive artistic spaces where people of all races, sexualities, and religions can display their talents and thrive.
