Exclusive Interview with Actress Linnea Currie-Roberts

Actor and improviser Linnea Currie-Roberts, based out of Toronto, attended the Music Theatre Performance program at Sheridan College. She’s had roles in Little Dougie, The Lockpicker, and Man Seeking Woman, as well as a role in the upcoming short film The Other Side of Morning. Most recently, Currie-Roberts has taken on the role of reserved and caring Connie Bonacieux in KindaTV’s All For One.

I recently had the opportunity to interview Linnea about her role, the impact All For One has, and more.

Your character is a lesbian, something that really isn’t represented all that much in the media right now. How does it feel to be taking on the role of representing a community that is undeniably underrepresented?

It’s a pretty great honour, and something that I feel lucky to have the opportunity to do! Every community deserves to have their stories told, and it’s so amazing to have online content that is geared toward groups that are not well represented on mainstream TV or in movies. I hope that All For One and all the other fantastic web series happening right now will help to change that.

All For One deals with a lot of different issues, all things that are very present in the younger generation right now. It touches on sexuality, feminism, the legitimacy of online friendships, and college life in general. How important do you think that these issues are to the show and to the characters?

Wow, those are all such different topics. I think that all of these issues are very important to the show, as they make up a big part of it! For the characters, I really like that sexuality doesn’t seem that important to them. They are who they are and it’s not a big deal, it’s just accepted and supported – which is honestly just the way things should be in real life. Obviously, Dorothy’s online friends are very important to her, but there is so much we don’t know about them, so I’m hopeful that we’ll get an opportunity to learn even more about them in the future, since they’re such a huge part of the show. In terms of feminism and navigating college life, I think that the characters are all figuring that out – what feminism means to them, and how they can get through the drama of college without their heads falling off. It’s tough. College can really suck. Feminism rocks though. 

Connie is involved in a long distance relationship, and at times, it seems as if that relationship may be strained. Is being away from her girlfriend hindering the relationship?

Ooooh, well, I can’t really say much about Monty because she hasn’t been discussed on the show very much yet. I once had a long distance girlfriend, though. It was difficult.

Would you say that Connie is struggling between the life that she left behind and the new one that she is discovering in college?

I imagine so. College is such a strange new world, especially if you go right out of high school and it’s the first time you’ve really been away from everything you know. Connie is really sweet and I think she loves home and the people there, but I think she also really loves her new life at Dumas, so I’m sure she’s feeling some mixed emotions. 

Connie didn’t get an MST bid, but she moved on and accepted the bid from another sorority. Do you think that she made the right choice? It’s sort of spared her from becoming involved with the current situation that Dorothy and the others are in.

I mean I don’t think Connie would ever approve of planting meth on someone, so yes…but I also think Connie just wants everyone to be at peace, and she doesn’t like hanging on to things, so it was probably easier for her to move on to her second choice. 

What do you hope the audience takes away from the show?

I just hope they have a good time watching it and that it leaves them with some positive feelings in their bones and brains. 

Do you ship Dornie (Dorothy and Connie)?

NO! Hahaha, yes. Yes, I do. Obviously.

What has been your favorite part of working on the show?

Everyone involved with the show is just the loveliest and it’s such a pleasure getting to work with them. There’s also usually Double Stuf Oreos at the craft table.
