How did you get into music?
“I got into music through college. I’ve always loved music, even when I was younger, but never thought it would be my thing. Then in college I took a music theory class and I understood it. I understood how songs came about and how music works.”
Who are your musical influences?
“Lou Reed, Tom Petty and Jerry Garcia.”
If you could describe your music sound/genre in one word, what word would you choose?
“Pop/rock.”
What is your favorite lyric or verse in “Back to Life”?
“When I love to watch you float across the room, it’s like you’re walking a dream.”
“Back to Life” was featured in the movie “Crooked Arrows”. What was that experience like?
“Awesome! “Crooked Arrows” is the first major motion picture about lacrosse. I grew up in Maryland and I played lacrosse all the way up through college. We won the national championship. It was really cool to be affiliated with the movie from a different angle. Not from the lacrosse angle, but from the music angle. I went to the premiere in Baltimore, Maryland. It was nice to be amongst family, friends, and peers.”
What is your favorite song to perform live?
“Right now my favorite song is called ‘In Your Arms’. It will be on our new record “One More Chance”.”
Can you tell us more about “One More Chance”?
“It was originally supposed to be an EP. It was a project I started with the producer and co-writer Steve Sulikowski. The songs we wrote kept getting better and better, and we really enjoyed working together. We also worked with co-writer Joey Clement. We wanted to keep going. We finished the second half of the record a month ago. We are working with mixers and mixing engineers as we speak.”
Do you have a favorite song off of it?
“Right now I don’t, which is really cool. I love the entire album. Even the artwork is great.”
Do you have a favorite song off of “Conversations Missed”?
“Yes, Cold Weather. It’s the most beautiful song I’ve been a part of. When the record does come out we will self-title it “Cold Weather”.”
If you could perform with any musician dead or alive who would it be?
“Mike Campbell, who is the lead guitarist for The Heartbreakers.”
Do you have plans to tour?
“I’m doing a radio tour right now. I’m flying all over the country with my guitarist meeting radio stations. In August and September we are touring in England with the full band for a month.”
Do you prefer playing acoustic or with the full band?
“I prefer full band all the way! These musicians are fantastic!”
Do you prefer clubs or college shows?
“I enjoy both. Every venue so far has been fantastic. The shows have been really intimate. The energy is awesome.”
What has been your favorite show/performance so far?
“The 8×10 in Baltimore or The Bluebird Theater in Denver.”
What would your life’s theme song be?
“Brass Ring which will be the first song off “One More Chance”.
