Review: Angel’s Edge Series by Vicki Keire

Vicki Keire’s YA series Angel’s Edge consists of three novels, Gifts of the Blood, Darkness in the Blood and Blood Redemption.  The series is set in a small southern town called Whitfield and its main characters are siblings Logan and Caspia Chastain.  Their parents are dead, Logan is dying and Caspia is trying her best to keep them together.

An art student at the local college Caspia sometimes lapses into strange fugues in which she draws the future.  The only other person aware of her ability is her brother; that is until she meets the subject of her latest and most violent drawing in the town square park.

Meeting Ethan sets off a chain of events that start with the exposure of the mysterious underside of her quiet town and ultimately end with a full-scale battle of good versus evil.  In between Caspia, Logan and Ethan meet, and in some cases befriend, a blind chess wizard, an insane angelic kidnapper dressed in red leather, a coven of witches, a cat who talks to spirits, werewolves and an evil representative of the elves…or are they fae….or are they….?

Angels, Nephilim, witches, wizards and wolves as well as representatives from every supernatural group that live and work in Whitfield join together with the four guardians who protect their town and keep the peace.  Together they attempt to push the demons back to the darkness and heaven’s angelic warrior host back to the light in order to keep their town and it’s residents safe.

As with most YA paranormal and/or fantasy stories the ability to suspend disbelief for a little while will greatly enhance your reading experience.  Ms. Keire has built a credible world with likable heroes and despicable villains.  Her prose is descriptive and easy to read.  These books are perfect for an evening or a weekend when your mind needs a break from the everyday.  They are the equivalent of binge watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer – sweet, a little scary and easily digestible.

I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a new YA series to dig their teeth into.  It is perfect for any YA’s you know and a guilty pleasure for older readers who enjoy a good adventure and strong writing.  Ms. Keire has a couple of other series available as well so the fun doesn’t have to stop when you’ve finished Angel’s Edge.

The series is published by Curiosity Quills Press and was published in 2013/2014.  The books are available on Amazon in paperback and e-book.
