Exclusive Interview with Owen Wilder Vaccaro from Daddy’s Home

Owen Wilder Vaccaro is only 9 years old but he’s already done so much that others only dream of doing. This Christmas, he’s starring alongside Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, and Linda Cardellini in a new holiday comedy titled “Daddy’s Home.”
What other big names will this little guy be seen working with? How about Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, and Sarah Chalke in “Mother’s Day.”
When he’s not on set, he’s like most other third grade boys: sleeping over his friends’ houses and hoping he gets to meet his current hero some day.
Find out who that hero is when you read our interview with Owen below!
What made you want to be an actor?
“My first grade teacher really got me into it. She got me into this acting class and I tried out filming and I loved it.”
That is very cool. What’s your favorite thing about acting?
“Just getting to see, meet and get to know everyone.”
If you could have any role you wanted, what would it be?
“Probably a kid in Jurassic Park or in Harry Potter.”
Those are good choices! You’ve already gotten to work with a lot of big name actors. What’s that been like for you?
“It’s really been fun. They’re all really nice and really funny on set.”
That’s good! So if you could be in a movie with anybody, who would it be? Who would you want to work with?
“Chris Pratt.”
That would be fun, I bet.
“Yes. (Laughs),”
Do you think you’ll still be acting when you grow up or is there something else you want to try to do?
“I hope so! But I do want to try horseback riding.”
Maybe you could do that in a movie.
“Maybe.”
What can you tell me about the two movies you’ve got coming up? What can you tell me about “Daddy’s Home” and “Mother’s Day”?
“I can tell you what they’re about. Daddy’s Home is about a boy whose mom gets remarried to a new dad and then the real dad comes back and both the dads compete over the children. And Mother’s Day, is about two moms who get married and they adopt a child and it’s really funny.”
When do they come out? Do you know?
“I know when Daddy’s Home comes out. It premieres on December 13th and it comes out on Christmas.”
And is Mother’s Day coming out around Mother’s Day?
“Yes.”
That sounds good. What grade are you in?
“I’m in fourth grade.”
What’s your favorite subject?
“Art and P.E.”
So what have you been up to today?
“I stayed the night at my friend’s house.”
Sounds like fun. What kinds of things do you like to do?
“I like to play on my trampoline a lot, play video games, and I like acting and doing plays.”
Do you do flips on your trampoline?
“Yeah. (Laughs).”
What would you tell other kids your age who want to do some acting some day?
“Not to give up. You’re not gonna get everything that you set out for. You’re not even gonna get most of it. But you have to keep trying. You have to be persistent. You have to get ready [for auditions] and you have to learn the script.”
Is it hard?
“Kind of. In some parts.”
It can be a lot of hard work, huh? Fun and hard work?
“Yeah! Definitely.”
What’s the hardest part?
“The hardest part is probably waiting in the pre-scene.”
What do you do when you’re waiting?
“You take a lot of takes. You do it again and you do it again and again.”
Do you ever get tired and bored of doing it again?
“Yeah, sometimes (laughs), but [some scenes] are really fun to do over and over again. And [sometimes] we play a joke on [someone]. One time Garry Marshall was there and it was really funny.”
Since our website is called Talk Nerdy With Us, is there anything that makes you a little bit nerdy?
“Um, my glasses? I don’t know! (Laughs).”
Check out this adorable little guy this holiday season in “Daddy’s Home” and in the spring when “Mother’s Day” hits the theaters. He’ll surely make you smile.
