Cover Wars: Riptide

“Riptide” is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy. The song was first released as the second single from Vance’s God Loves You When You’re Dancing EP in 2013, and it was re-released on Vance’s debut studio album, Dream Your Life Away in 2014. “Riptide” was written by Vance and has been described as a “coming of age love story.”
“Riptide” currently holds the record for longest charting song on the ARIA Chart, with 107 weeks and counting, beating previous record holder “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga. The song also reached number 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs Chart here in the United States.
The music video for “Riptide” was released in April of 2013 on YouTube and artistically represents every lyric of the song. Taylor Swift chose to cover Vance’s song in her BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge in October 2014. Fun Fact: Vance Joy then went on to be an opener Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour.
