This article may contain spoilers for those who have not seen all of Supernatural’s episodes.
The Yellow-Eyed Demon. Hell. Lucifer. The Leviathans. Plus, a Woman in White, vengeful spirits, vampires, werewolves, witches, demons, angels, Vetalas and other supernatural evil. The Winchester brothers have faced it all. And other than dying a few hundred times, the boys have survived it all to carry on with the family business of saving people and hunting things. Sam and Dean have even been undaunted witnessing their lives play out in all of its musical glory.
But now the stakes have been raised. There’s a new threat in town that is arguably more terrifying than all that has come before it: The Darkness.
The end of season 10 brought good and bad news to the Winchesters. The good news: Dean was finally rid of The Mark of Cain and its murderous urges. The bad news: The Darkness has arrived in full fury.
What exactly is The Darkness? There has been some suggestion that The Darkness has a pre biblical element. If this is true, despite the vast informational resources contained within the Men of Letters library, it is doubtful that the compound offers a text that can address (and defeat) a pre biblical entity. Sam and Dean may need help from a higher authority. It wouldn’t be the first time the brothers would have sought God’s help. Last time (Season 5), according to the angel Joshua who cultivated Heaven’s garden, God wanted the boys to “back off.” If God felt that the Apocalypse wasn’t his problem, would He want to help the boys confront The Darkness?
Maybe this question and a slew of other questions will be revealed when Supernatural Season 11 premieres on Wednesday, October 7 at 9/8c on The CW.
