Ross Poldark: The Return of a Swashbuckling Hero

In 1976, Masterpiece Theatre introduced audiences to Ross Poldark, a Revolutionary War Hero from a series of novels by author Winston Graham.

Captain Ross Poldark, a British soldier fighting in the war between the colonies, returns home to find his home in ruins and his fiancée engaged to his cousin. The series explores Ross rebuilding his home and business. Along the way, he falls in love with Demelza, a scrappy street urchin from a lower class.

Robin Ellis played Ross in the original series. In this 2015 version, actor Aiden Turner takes over the role. The original Poldark aired in two parts, Poldark which was 16 episodes and Poldark 2 containing 13 episodes. As a huge fan of Ellis’ Ross, I’m eager to see Turner’s take on the character.

Poldark premieres tonight, Sunday, June 21 at 9:00 on PBS.
